sherwood8701
What is the "standard" gratuity when using an outfitter. It is a self guided hunt, however they process the deer and transport you to and from your stand. What about tipping the butcher, cook, maid? brownie65
depends on what you can afford & how the service was.

brownie65
personally if it is a do it yourself hunt then why tip a guide.( By the way I do guide) If you do have a guide helping you & he is putting you on deer & doing things for you, if you harvest a deer does he help you find it, get it out of the woods, take pictures etc. Do you feel he has done a good job, made you happy. Then yes you should tip him. As I said it depends on what you can afford. I have gotten anywhere from $20 to $1000. Depends on the guy & what he can afford. Some give other things. I have had anything from cigars to hunting equipment gave to me. If you can afford 20 % then go for it if you can't give less if you can afford more then do it. How good of a job did the guide do for you. If it is a self guided hunt & what you say he is doing is all, like taking you to the woods & back then I would think it wouldn't be much. I assume you are paying the butcher to cut your deer up. If so then I don't think you should tip him. If he is doing it for free(which I doubt) then yes you should tip him. Is the cook also the waitress, then yes leave them a tip just like when you go out to eat. As far as the maid, don't really know. In the past our hunters always washed their own clothes & made their own beds. We would go in & do a good cleaning once they left before a new group showed up. If you are happy with her service though then that is up to you. I know that probably isn't the answer you want to hear. But it is hard to tell you a %. Some hunts cost a lot more than others so 20 % would be alot different in most cases. Again best advice I can give is to give what you can afford & also go by how the guide ( or other help) made you feel. Did they do a good job, adequate or so-so.My opinion on the maid is there is nothing wrong with leaving $20-25 for her if she kept your room clean & clothes washed. My opinion is the guide does most of the work & deserves the best tip(in most cases). But if you are on a self guided hunt then you might be able to spread it around a little. sherwood8701
Hey Thanks, that gives me a little idea. Yes it is a self guided hunt. Cleaning, skinning and meat processing is provided in the cost of the hunt.
superguide
The worst tip I got other than nothing lol. Was $5-this guy was put in a stand with a about a 160 5x5 coming into it-he shot about a 90 inch 4x4 instead-made a bad shot and I ended up having about a half mile drag through a jungle to get it out. To be honest he should of just kept his $5 I even had some good ideas where he could put it.
