buffett1
I was just wondering how many people use a 20 gauge for turkey hunting. I currently have a 12 I use, but thought about getting a 20 and trying to get my brother and some other people started into hunting.

Strut_Buster
Re: 20 vs. 12 I have a 20 ga that i take along as a ultralight gun. Works great and pattern well with remington hevi shot. I would take it at a 25-30 yard gun
robk
Re: 20 vs. 12 when i get to hunt i use a 12 but i spend most of my time calling for others so i don't care which they use it's that they can hit what they aim at rob k

Nut
Re: 20 vs. 12 Either gauge will do with the correct choke and load. The shot pattern is what does the job. If ya get the bird within the effective range BOOM dead bird.

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: 20 vs. 12 I use a Remington 870 with 2 3/4" shells in the spring----full choke & #4 shot. If the fall I have a Savage 222/ 20 guage----full choke & #6 shot. Both work. I like the 12 a little better. I like using #4 shot. Good Luck----CB
slaw
Re: 20 vs. 12 Mossberg, 835, 12ga...3and a half inch mag, folded up 2 longbeards out at 50 yrds like a cheap umbrella...I wouldn't take that shot with a 20 ga.
PA_Spike_King
Re: 20 vs. 12 I use a Win 1300 12 gauge with a 22inch barrel and fitted with a comp-n-choke. I use #6 win shot. I think a 20 would do the job but not for the long shots.
JimT
Re: 20 vs. 12 I use a 12, but my buddy uses a 20. He got a nice bird with it last year with one shot. I would use a 20 if I had one. They work.

Guest Hoyt
Re: 20 vs. 12 I'll be using a 20ga. this yr. I'm just about finished building a .20ga. Old Virginia flintlock..just for gobblers. Will just have to be a little more patient and call them in to about 30yds..like in the old days. lil hunter
Re: 20 vs. 12 I think a 20 would work just fine. I use to use one, but never killed a bird with it. I'm wondering why you don't buy a cheaper 12 gauge(mossberg 500/835, 870 express, etc) and start other people off with that? Chokes and shells would be a lot easier to find, and they wouldn't cost too much extra $$
Mach1
Re: 20 vs. 12 My brother has a 20 ga. 870 that he shot a bird at 40 yds with. My dad uses a 12 ga. Browning and dropped one at 50. I use a 12 ga. 870 w. 3 1/2 shells but haven't had the opportunity to shoot one. Any will do, it's all in your preference.
redbeard
Re: 20 vs. 12 They all will kill them.........if you let 'em get close enough. Bought an antique Springfield Arms double .410 the other week and you can bet one afternoon when I'll tired of lugging the big gun around that I'll be totin' the .410. I'll pull both triggers if need be
maytom
Re: 20 vs. 12 I've been a 12 gauge shooter all my life, and don't plan on changing anytime soon. I can see the need for a 20 gauge for a younger shooter or a woman though.
