Guest WilliamD1979
I am needing to upgrade my clothing for bowhunting. I have been looking at the silent/quiet clothing fabrics but I was looking for feedback on what you guys/gals use and like. I am looking for a coat and bibs. I hunt on my parents farm in Kansas so it gets pretty cold in December there. So I am looking at something that stays warm and quiet! Thanks for the feedback and info in advance! Master_Chief
While the outer garments are important I have found the under garments to be more of a factor. Get something that wicks away moisture (Under Armour type) and then go over that with something wool. You didn't mention whether it was bow or gun hunting. I really try and stay away from bulky during bow season. Too many things can go wrong.
Guest bow_hunter101
UnderArmour is pricy, but it is definately worth the money if you're looking for maximum warmth with minimum bulk. As far as coveralls, I swear by Wall's Insulated coveralls (http://www.wallsoutdoors.com/Product.aspx?PID=SG&GEND=A&BRD=W&CAT=CA&M0=1&PSTL=15520#). I bought mine at Dick's Sporting Goods on sale for $80 a couple years ago and they are in Advantage Camo. These coveralls were well designed for hunters, best I've ever used. They're extremely warm, quiet, and not too bulky. They have held up unbelievably well (I'm pretty rough on huntin clothes ), don't even have a scratch, and I expected them to last many more years. wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums William. Does not get too terribly cold here normally during our bow season, but I have a cabelas super slam 3 in 1 parka with thinsulate liner I wear when the weather cools down. The parka has flexible stretch panels that do not hinder drawing too which is kind of nice.
wildthing
I'd go with Under Armour as a base layer and then go from there. I don't wear things to bulky myself...gun or bow.

Guest WilliamD1979
I'm looking at maybe $200 for Bibs and a coat. But I am flexible on that.
rhine16
Welcome to the forums. I like to go with an under armour top, a tight, shirt, and a fleece jacket.
bwlacy
Start with under armour, then a polypropelene long underwear, then a wool or fleece layer. What I've done the last few years if to get some of the large handwarmers that have adhesive on them. They are called body warmers, stick them on you second layer. One on each kidney will keep you warm all day. Also those hand warmers can be used over. They say 8 to 10 hours. So if you sit only a few hours in the morning when you are done take those hand warmers and put in a ziploc back, squeeze all the air out and close. Then in the afternoon reuse them. As far as the outer layer. I've been told by many people that Rivers West makes the best outer layer clothing. Very quiet, warm, wind proof and water proof. It is pricey though, I think around $400 for both pieces. But if it lasts 10 years that is only $40 per year. Good luck Matt
Rhino
Welcome to the forums. It's not just the cold you have to deal with in Kansas...it's the wind that goes with it many times. Hunting your neck of the woods I use my standard layering system depending on the temps I have to deal with. My thermal underwear ranges from light weight to expedition weight depending on the temperature. There have been times when I've worn a couple of bottoms under my scent loc full season pants. With the uppers goes a short sleve T shirt, a long sleve T shirt (or 2) and a turtle neck...all depending on the temp I have to dress for too. If I have to go for more protection I break out my Browning hydrofleece jacket (with charcoal scent absorption liner). If I don't need it, I just go with my scent loc full season jacket. As far as boots go, I have 3 pair of insulated rubber boots that range from 800's to 1200's.
