Food Plot posts. Let's here your take on this....

No doubt that corn is a great attraction especially in the northern climate--corn is such a great form of carbs that the deer really need. Unfortunately i don't have access to true agricultural crops so I have to plant my own. I plant both annuals and perennials. The Hamann Farms Fall Blend has been the best nutritional and attractant plot I have ever planted. Here is a pic of part of the plot taken last August.

Yeah I agree that agricultural crops seem to work the best.

We also leave a couple acres of corn unharvested for the deer but we don't hunt over it because they really don't touch it until late winter(february). We have a lot of spring/summer corn damage but during deer season they usually aren't in cornfields unless the corn is harvested, then the deer clean up whatever the combine missed.

Right now behind our house we have a couple of acres of rye and nice sized patch of standing corn. They're all flocking to the rye and not even touching the corn. confused.gif and I barely ever see them in my food flot(clover, brassicas) confused.gif

'm really tired, if this post doesn't make sense, just disreguard it.

Hey I think I found a new signature grin.gif

Around here the deer seem to use the corn as cover just as much, or more than a food source. At the end of the season I'll go out into my neighbor's field and pick up waste corn that the combine missed and toss it into my field. That corn is usually gone in a matter of a day or so. I know all the wildlife eat it though from the tiniest of mice and sparrows on up to the deer, so there's no doubt corn is a good food source the wildlife will utilize.

I'll be growing some of Martin's stuff next year for sure. Can't wait to get started.
