just a couple questions for you experienced bow hunters. one, why do people take so many arrows with them to the stand? is it really necessary to carry 6 hunting arrows? two, if you are hunting and shooting time is over but there are still deer in the feild in front of you when do you get out of your stand? do you wait until they leave or just get down, and why?

I carry 3 arrows to the stand...you never know ;)

I grunt or whistle when it's time to get out of the stand. Not sure that's the best thing to do, but I do it.

Welcome to Realtree. Where are you from?

I keep a quiver of 4 arrows with me. I usually use one to just practice shooting from my stand. The other 3 I keep for deer or turkey ;)

I would use my grunt call if there were still deer in the field. I've also heard of people using coyote calls to run deer away from their stand when getting down. Hope this helps :D

Well the answer to your first question is I carry 5 arrows, 3 have broadheads, 2 are field points. I have one on the string, but sometimes you miss. So that would be arrow number 2, lets say you hit on arrow 2 but need to shoot it again when you find it, hence arrow #3. The feild points are for shooting at a squirrel or at a leaf before I climb down to leave to make sure my bow is on. Also, one year I shot two seperate deer on one mornings hunt from the same tree, then the 3rd arrow is my insurance arrow, you just never knwo what youll find when you recover them.

As for your second question, Id either blow a coyote call, or a snort wheeze. That should clear the area out the fastest.

i agree with him and another thing is you never know if your going to fall with your bow and maybe break or bend a arrow or two and then that's when the others might be handy and when there are deer in the field and it is too dark to shoot i usually either wait it out or use my snort and wheeze and on bow season i dont think there is a shooting time as long as you can see but i might need to freshin up on the rule book lol

I carry 3 arrows with broadheads on them to the stand with me. You just never know what might happen. I have an archery turkey permit with me which runs the same days as archery deer season. Then we are allowed to kill 2 deer in the same sitting, so you just never know. If there are deer on the field in front of me, I usually grunt or whistle at them. If they are not big or I won't be hunting that setup for a while, I will wait until about 10 min. after shooting light and climb down. I did this the other night and the two yearlings that were on the field just stared at me. I just walked slowly and quietly away and did not look back and the deer simply watched me walk away. Never ran. The next night, I hunted the same stand and those same two yearlings and a forkhorn came out on the field.

I usually carry 4 or 5 arrows. Why? You just never know. I've used 3 arrows on one hunt in the past. A few times I've spined deer, and it's nice to have a backup arrow to finish it.

As far as deer around me, I try to wait them out depending on the time of year. If it's early in the year, my bow coming down from the tree usually spooks them off. If it's the rut, I will wait a long time before spooking deer off.

I carry three arrows, and I've had to use two one time. Like everyone else said, it's better to have too many than not enough.;)

I'll usually wait for the deer to move out of the area before I climb down, if they're not I'll just grunt with my mouth if I don't have calls on me.

for Q 1 i take 4 hunting arrows and 2 practice arrows, i wouldn't take any less than 3 hunting arrows. because trust me i have been in the situation more than once when i needed more than 1 arrow. sometimes if your lucky if u miss a deer they wont notice it and they will think a stick just broke or something.

for Q 2 i will stay on stand as long as i can if there are still deer in the field.

Q1. I only carry 4 arrows into the field with me, 3 of them are tipped Rage 2 blade's and 1 with a field tip for the coons and opossum. That has been plenty for me.

Q2. If I have a bunch of deer still in the field and they would get spooked by my leaving the stand I always wait an extra 30 min to an hour to try to give them a chance to feed out or move off.
