maddhunter
Well it finally happened, Cole busted a doe Friday evening. Dropped her dead in her tracks with his Browning .308 :) We had gotten to our tree about 4:45pm. Cole started up the tree as I was pouring out the Buck Grub. I then climbed the tree and retrieved the gun, loaded it and handed it to Cole to hang on the hanger. I no more got finished putting out the earth scent wafers when a small doe entered the opening and started eating the grub. I told Cole to get his gun ready and he said "for what?" I said "there's a doe eating the grub". He couldn't see her for the limbs hanging down (he was a bit higher than me). He handed me the gun and climbed down one notch to where he could see her but didn't have a good rest, and then a second doe, which was bigger, came out. Cole then was cimbing down to get next to me while the bigger doe was eating the grub. It took us about 4 tries, moving a stopping as she looked our way. He finnally got down beside me and got positioned with the gun resting on my hand as I gripped a limb and he downed her like a ton of bricks. We hugged and cried and hugged some more. We didn't know whether to cry or laugh. We could barely stay in the tree, I think we shook all the acorns out of that huge tree. It was the best day of my life next to all three of my kids being born. Now we just have to get a buck so we won't have to mount that doe, which we may anyhow. If it weren't for them eating that Buck Grub we wouldn't have had enough time to get Cole repositioned to make the shot. Oh and we shot 2 hogs that morning also. And the wife is nagging me to get all that meat out of the frige so she can get groceries:D:D Oh, and Cole is 9 years old, just so I don't have to post it later. J.ALLEN.IA
congrats to cole! I am a late bloomer since my dad was not much interested in hunting, so I think its great hearing stories of Dad's starting out with their kids while their young and teaching them.
