Turkeygirl
So yesterday afternoon, I decided to hunt the land by home, more of scouting then hunting. I walk through the old gravel pit, where I had been seeing alot of tracks and sign from turkeys. What do you know in the same spot where I think the birds cross the field to go over to the corn field, I find sets of FRESH tracks headed towards the field. Then a little bit down the road I find fresh tracks from them coming back. They did this in the early spring before season, I'd find their tracks, but they weren't there in the early morning nor late afternoon. So I'm almost positive these birds are moving to the corn field from the woods on the other side of an alafalfa field between the hours of 10am and 3pm! Why do I say this? Because hunting in that field earlier in the week, I hunted till 9:30am and saw nothing, and they weren't there in the evening. Think I'm on the right track? Tomorrow I am going to set-up between the two fields, right where I'm almost sure they cross through in this peninsula of pines, and try to wait them out. It's suppose to rain later tonight, so they should hit the fields in the AM won't they? Will they tend to roost later if the weather is overcast? I'm gonna get on these birds, I'm getting it narrowed down!
Bachflock
Sounds like you're on the right track to me. You know two spots they are travelling. Keep at it. If you have a solid day to spend out there do it. Throw out some feeding calls and comfort calls. I'd be willing to bet if you catch them in the area and use some "hey, everything here is ok" calls you'll bag a bird!
Turkeygirl
Well I went out and sat where they are crossing through, from 9:15am to noon. Nothing...weather was rainy off and on and got windy so maybe that's why, but they may be coming through later also. I know during the winter, when I would go out squirrel hunting, I would find their fresh tracks going to and coming from that field, same spot, it seemed around 3-4pm so maybe they are moving through after like 12pm and going back over to their roosting area late afternoon. Do turkeys have kind of a "time schedule" like that? Will they be places at similar times each day?
