What a Bummer...

I have been looking forward to this weekend all year and when my evil twin got his Hunters Safety class, made it look even better... Well, after duck hunting last weekend, I got what looked like a infected hair on my upper leg and popped it with out a thought. Mon it was still there and popped it again, got up Tue and it was bigger, so popped it again. When I got in Wen night it was about the size of my thumb and very hard, thinking it was a boil now, soaked it in eppsons salts and used cold packs also. Did not sleep at all Fri morning and called Dr. on Fri, it was 6"X2 1/2" that was very hard and a red spot about 10" around it.

Dr would not lance it but said: "Do not pop it, if this is that MSRA that has killed 2 kids in Ohio the last 2 weeks, you need to get it treatted and let it open up on it's own if the Meds don't stop it!"

I have had a few things that hurt me more then this but it has been very few things, I will keep you all up on what is going on but if you have any "Pimpel" that don't look and act right, get it checked...

I am looking at, once it opens up, getting a drain put in and having it packed and may be out of the hunt for a few weeks. It has been responding to my meds but I have been taking my Vicotion to keep the pain down.

Glad my boys are such good sports, they was looking forward to this youth only doe season in WV as much as I was but soon as they got the word as to how bad my leg is, they did not think twice about staying home...

MRSA isn't too bad usually. You could have a rare case, but I doubt it. It has reproduced so many times slightly different that there are a few cases when it's pretty dangerous, but I wouldn't worry about it. On my football team, I'd say easily over 30 players have had it over the past 2 seasons, including me. I just got on some anti-biotics that killed it pretty quick and it was gone in about a week. Bleach kills it, so you can use that on stuff around the house to get rid of the germs. Lysol spray also kills it, so you can use that too. If you need to know anything else about it, i could help you. If not, my athletic trainer has taken classes all about how to treat it and everything, so I could get you some info if you need it.

Thanks everyone, things are looking a lot better today: still hurts but I have not took anything for the pain but OTC stuff.

Li'l thanks, Dr told me the same thing and have been working on all that.

19, look down in the waterfowl thread for my post on Mommy's and MDT's first duck. I took the boys and a 7 month old pup out first, so I thought I would not need a gun with my hands full like that...LOL

Just did a little research, thats some nasty stuff! Better clean everything!!! Get well soon!!!

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria — often called "staph." Decades ago, a strain of staph emerged in hospitals that was resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. Dubbed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), it was one of the first germs to outwit all but the most powerful drugs.

Osteomylitus

In 1962 when I got all busted up, I got staph infection in the femur area where the bone was shattered! It turned to osteomylitus!:(

My leg has been open, draining, closed and open several times over the years and it has been open now since Jan. of 2001. No drainage but there is an opening!:(

To try and "cure" this crap is next to impossible! The choice I was given was they would open up the whole upper leg right down to the femur. Take out half the femur and give it daily doses of anti-biotic. After they "thought" the infection was cured, they would let the open wound heal from the bone out!:(

If this did NOT cure the infection, they would cut out the entire femur, cure the infection and then graft the femur back in! I would be flat on my back anywhere from 6 weeks to 18 months!:(

I told them to FORGET IT! I would live with what I have and when they toss me in the oven, the infection would be cured!;)
