Doe down in IL

Well i finally got on the board. Sittin over a cut corn field, had a doe walking toward my 15 yard fence gap, when she caught a whiff of the curiousity scent i put out and spooked off about 10 yards. Made it a 32 yard shot, and i hit her 4 inches back from being perfect, and it was all gut shot. I was extremely disappointed when i found my arrow covered in stomach matter. We waited till midnight since rain was in the forecast, followed a faint blood trail until we came up to what we thought was the dead doe at 3 yards. She was still alive, but hurtin too bad to move, even though 3 guys with flashlights are within spitting distance. I put an arrow in the boiler room and finished her off. The tracking job took 2 hours of following an extremely light blood trail. The bad shot wasnt for lack of practice, as i shoot 3-4 times a week. That disappointed me a bit, made her suffer, but part of hunting. here she is... Now we wait for the buck...

Congratulations! Sometimes those things happen. Don't beat yourself up over it. I know, I did the same thing in mid-October. All the practice all summer and I hit the doe above the hindquarter and fortunately, hit an artery and she was dead within minutes and I watched her go down. I felt really bad and I still do but the guys and girls on this forum encouraged me that those things happen sometimes. So I too am waiting for the buck this time. Good luck!

Congrats on the doe Sam! I know ya feel bad about the shot, but feeling bad over a bad shot is what makes you a good ethical hunter! That may sound crazy but some of these morons that just sling arrows and bullets wildly would give a care about that shot and they make the rest of us look bad! Since you practice so much, at least ya know you can shoot! It may be just a nerve thing that ya got to get control over before you shoot! Good luck on getting a nice buck!
