Meaning, what do you REALLY want to do with your life? Keep it honest and keep it something that is doable which means a goal that you can actually achieve if you wanted too. It would be nice to see some of your long term goals, especially from the younger crowd. At the same time remember, some people do not know what they want to do in life until they are well into the middle ages. My long term goal is to retire from the Marine Corps and work for the National Security Agency. I am currently 33 credits away from a Bachelors degree in Information Assurance with UMUC. I lost some time due to deployments through the years. I actually started working on my degree back in 1999 but I also started from the ground up. I would like to have my Masters in Information Assurance before I retire as well. Hopefully I can keep from deploying so I can do this as my time is winding down. But by taking two classes a semester, it is very doable. I would like to settle down somewhere like in New Hampshire or Montana although my job will probably take me to the DC area. I would like to own a RV as well so we can go on trips throughout the country to places like Yellowstone maybe twice a year. That is my long term goal. OJR Posted October 30, 2007 Report Share Posted October 30, 2007 Jr Shooting Club Even an old fart like I am is working on something that could turn into long term for the youth in the Lewis-Clark Valley! I belong to the American Legion and they have a program for Jr. Shooters. I am trying to get this established in the valley with several different organizations! I had a meeting today with the Idaho Fish & Game and they will back it completely for this region! We set an organizational meeting for Nov. 6th with all the different groups! Hopefully we can put it together and if we do, the youth of this valley are going to be able to shoot Olympic style air rifles, 22 rifles, 243 caliber rifles and shotguns! Scouts would be able to get their shooting badges, but this club would be open to all youngsters under 18 years old. Boys or girls! We are also trying to get the Jr. Air Force ROTC involved! Have a desighn department irrigation department tree service department maintence department installation department. I would also like to do some mission work in brazil and africa. rhine16 Posted October 30, 2007 Report Share Posted October 30, 2007 Seeing that i'm right out of high school, this has been all that has been on my mind for the past year or so and i'll still dont truly know what i want. I can say that i want to end up around this area(hopefully on one of my two grandad's farms) in a nice house with my wife. Hopefully have been blessed with a couple great kids. As far as materially, I'm going for my civil engineering degree right now. Guest tarbaby Posted October 30, 2007 Report Share Posted October 30, 2007 Since I'm two semesters from graduating from Kansas State with a BS in Wildlife Biology and a BS in Fisheries Biology as well as a minor in Geography, I ought to use some of that for a job. Haha. I would like to have a career with a non-profit organization like Ducks Unlimited or National Wild Turkey Federation. Eventually having a couple of kids with a wonderful woman; settling down on enough ground to do some wildlife management. On this land I would like to have an outfitters service that guides youth hunters and disabled folks that don't always have the opportunity to go hunting or enjoy the outdoors like most of us take for granted. I plan on selling both of my companies in 10 years (I will be 40) and retiring to Montana with my wife, best friend (business partner) and his wife and living on a horse farm. We have already layed out a 10 year business plan to reach this and are working towards it as we speak. I will let you know in 2017 if it happens. I'd like to retire at 55,(43 now)move far from NYC, get some land in a gun/hunting friendly state and have a place that my grandchildren will always want to come to and hunt with me. My docs and I have an outstanding plan to make that dream a reality. So far, so good. Other goals: Motivational speaker down at The James Cancer hospital in Columbus, or work as a volunteer/counselor of some sort. There are a lot of cancer support groups down there. In order: 1) Become what God would have me to be 2) Become debt free and never again go in debt 3) Find a career that is actually my calling......that way I will never work another day in my life. 4) Become self employed...I am sick of the greed of others negatively impacting my career. 5) Buy 1,000 acres out west somewhere with a nice native trout stream running through it along with Elk, Whitetail, and Mulies. Plant a house right in the middle on a small rise above a large field covered in hay that waves when the wind blows. Maybe have the kids and their families live on the property and make a good living off the land. Plant some rockers facing West and live out the rest of my days. [okay, this one may qualify as a pipe dream]. I wouldn't be me if I didn't throw some kind of sarchasm in there.......live at LEAST one more day than Hillary Clinton! In the next 5-10 years I plan on buying my own land for hunting,and after the kids are grown and on their own I plan on building a cabin on it and moving there.(The wifes still not sure about this deal...city girl.) My goal is also to retire by the time I'm about 55,so I can enjoy any grandkids I might have yet and hunt as much as possible while I still can. I want to be debt free and save to buy some property that I can live on when I retire. Some place were me and my family will always have a place to hunt and spend time together. I currently work for a hospital district and part of our business is a nursing home. After I retire I'll probably come back here and do volunteer work with the elderly. Shaun_300 Posted October 30, 2007 Report Share Posted October 30, 2007 Well I'm 20 (almost 21) so I guess I'm part of the younger crowd. Right now I'm working on finishing the last stage of my automotive apprenticeship, I'll be a fully licensed automotive technician by May. My goal in my career is to become an automatic transmission and engine specialist and be sucessful in my career and trade. Which I have no doubt that I'll be able to be. I've been working full time at a GM dealership since May 2005, and have been at my current dealer since June 2006. I love it there and they are pushing me to be the new tranny specialist, so basically they want me to stay there and be one of the head guys, so I plan on staying. In a few years I hope have my own house, to be married and start a family, watch my kids grow up and be successful. Hopefully retire around 50 or so, if not earlier and have a nice place on the lake. Mid term - 3 years - trip to Alaska. 9 years - kids college paid off. 10 - years purchase enough land to hunt on. Long term - Financially secure when I want to retire (55-60) so that I can start a side business of some sort that I enjoy; designing things that actually work for stuff I have an interest in; hunting, road racing, 4-wheeling, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Teach my kids to be the best person they can be and hopefully at the end be able to look back and know that I wasn't the richest or the poorest......most popular or least like...... and go on to my eternal life. I think it is important to set goals in your life to be successful whether they be short or long term.
