First day of vacation...BIG BUCK DOWN!!

It was afternoon on November 1st…and I was getting to my stand later than I wanted, but was finally in and settled by 4 o’clock. Except for some turkeys, things were pretty quiet until about 5:30 when I saw a doe about 200 yards away being chased by what looked like a nice buck. I grunted a few times on my true talker hoping he would be threatened and come in. Well they disappeared from site so I sat back for a bit and waited…well it wasn’t long before that doe was heading right towards me…and wouldn’t you know it…she came right to the bottom of my ladder stick and was sniffin’ it and hung out there for a good 5 minutes. The buck that was chasing her, was about 50 yards away in some thinker stuff just tearing a tree up. He snort wheezed a couple of times. (first time I’ve ever heard it in person) I wasn’t sure if he was snort-wheezing at the doe or because of the grunting I had done earlier…but it was cool. The doe finally left my stand and headed towards a clearing behind me, and that buck came up the hill a little further away after her. He walked right through my shooting lane and stopped behind some limbs and out of my comfortable range. I thought…dang, I have this great buck in front of me, and I’m not going to get a chance…he is going to keep walking away. Luckily for me, and unlucky for him…a smaller buck was coming from the same trail the big guy came from and that big buck wasn’t having any part of it. He turned around and headed back in the direction he came to confront the smaller buck, and when he went through my shooting lane again, I stopped him at 25 yards and let that rage do its thing. He bucked like a mule and took off like a madman…and not long after I heard him crash. I was a wreck! I was so nervous when we took up the trail…I knew I hit him good, and I really thought I heard him crash…but I was nervous none the less. When we finally came up on him about 120 yards later…I couldn’t believe it. He was beautiful and he was mine. Depending on how you count ‘em, he was either a 10 pointer or a 12 pointer (there are 2 nibs at the end of him main beams you can hang a ring on) ;) …both G-2’s have kickers off the back. I couldn’t be more happy with the hunt…the deer…and the fact that my brother was home to be there was awesome. …well, here are the pics!!
