Tominator
Well, I just completed a 5 day marathon hunt here in central Ohio. First and foremost I have to continue to give thanks to my bud Tom, (Ohiobucks). Without him, I'd be reduced to little wood lots dotted across 4 counties. Anyway, the weather was right, and the rut was kicking in so I took Friday and today off. The week's hunt was highlighted by a very close encounter with a buck that would have easily scored in the 140's, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he went over 150; he was that big. Unfortunately, the doe he was chasing came in behind me. The big boy trotted off to about 32 yards and stood in some brush right near a dead fall. Man, he was something to behold. Beautiful typical 10 with a few extras on the right main beam. I think he was a 5x6 or a 5x7, I'm not really sure. I tried everything to get him to move, but that doe was just too hot. I passed on at least 10 smaller bucks, and believe it or not, had zero chances on does, so my lack of luck on the doe front continues. I have not killed a doe since the 2003 season. Saturday I headed to Jefferson County to hunt with an old college bud. I got skunked there Saturday evening, but saw two little bucks on Sunday morning. I rattled in the first buck and he came right to the base of my stand. Tom and I hunted all day today but unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. Windy, warm, and then a storm as we quit, but all in all, I had a blast, and I just thank God I'm able to hunt as much I can this year. Tom's getting a little tired of me, but I'm having a blast. Ohhh, you want to refer to those 2 hours over at Steve's trimming shooting lanes and booting kids off of his property as part of said marathon. I see. Dogg6
Too bad about not making a harvest, but it's nice to be able to get out there. I have hunted 18 of the last 21 days here in WI and have no more meat in the freezer that when I started. But I can't get 1 unless I'm in the woods. Better luck in the future.
