Guest thunderhead
I have been hunting in Kansas using coveralls in cool to cold weather for a number of years now. The coveralls have always been restrictive to drawing my bow so I was thinkinking of switching to a well insulated jacket. What are some options and factors I should consider and do others prefer a jacket while bowhunting?
wtnhunt
Used to wear coveralls here when it was cold, but got a nice 3 in 1 parka and some bibs. I much prefer the bibs and parka over coveralls for hunting, especially bowhunting.
johnf
I have never liked coveralls, but didn't know any different. 3 years ago my wife got me some insulated bibbers and a parka. I think I stay much warmer now and I'm more comfortable and have better mobility. I think it's all because the coveralls have always seemed to either get tight in the groin or in the shoulders, or both:eek:. With less constriction there is better range of motion and better insulating value on the clothes. Bibbers and Parka all the way.
buckee
I used to have a set of Advantage Coveralls, and I would wear as much layered clothing as I could underneath to keep me warm. They were a bit restrictive in movement under those conditions, until I discovered "Silk" Longjohns. That silk next to your skin, with some nice woolies on top, and what-ever else on top of that, was the perfect combo for warmth and free movement. The silk gives you free movement, no matter what's on top. NOTE: I got my silk longjohns, way, way before I got the female hormone shots, for my Cancer, so there :D
Dogg6
I have been using a bibs and jacket combo for quite a few years now and would never go back to coveralls. Much better movement, room and warmth. Just make sure you get a quality pair of bibs and jacket/parka to keep you warm. There are a lot of cheap ones out there that work, but don't keep you very warm. A couple years ago I spent more than the wife knew about to get a good warm pair of bib and jacket. I never regretted spending the money, to help keep myself warm when sitting for hours, without having to put 10 layers under my coat. Leo
Bibs and a jacket are absolutely the way to go. You'll stay warmer and they'll actually fit instead of giving you fits.
Tecumseh
Bibs and a 3 in 1 parka is the way to go.
natethebowhunter
i have HERTERS coverals and i really like them...they are not too tight in the shoulder or groin area and i can easily pull my bow back with them on. also they are very warm. even below freezing i can get away with my coveralls, underarmor and a sweatshirt.
