wtnhunt
a orange cap or vest? Check your states regs, they should specify minimum requirements. Think a vest and cap fullfill 500 sq inch requirements while a vest alone is somewhere in the neighborhood of 432 sq inch.

A cap will meet the requirements...I was thinking more along the lines of which would be "less" visible to deer. With a hat you have your head movement...and a vest is less movement(in theory) but more surface orange....am i making sense? Has any one else had to wear orange while bowhunting...if so how did it work out?
firefighter
When required i'll wear just a hat this saturday I have never had a problem taking a deer while wearing orange and using my bow. Just remember to keep yourself in check and no quick head movements, Use your eyes . Since i hunt on public land that is bow only, and am pretty far from any neighboring farms. You can bet i'll be out saturday , weather is turning a little colder now.
sportsman2500
wearing orange is not that big of a problem with deer seeing you. with or with out orange you still have to keep your movement to a minimum. check your regs you may can take it off while in stand. once our gun season starts hear i dont go in the woods with our my orange, too many careless hunters out there. Bowtech_archer07
I've had to during IL's youth season. We were required to wear a hat and a vest because the youth season was firearm. I have not had deer spot me unless I move a lot. During firearm season, everyone is required to wear orange, and I firearm hunt as well. I've had deer spot me, but I think it was just because I was moving, not because of the orange.
kingfisherfd2
When I hunt during gun season I will wear my blaze orange hat to the treestand. Once i get up I take it off and put it on the closest branch and settle in with my camo hat on. The orange is still right next to me but it isn't moving around. Bonus to private land I guess.
