Springfield XD

I bought a .45acp in the black tactical 5" just because. It is very accurate and fits my hands well. The 5" barrel helps the recoil recovery too. Our liberal Governor keeps vetoing our Concealed Carry bill in Wisconsin so I can't help you on the carry part. I wouldn't carry this gun anyway as it's frame is a bit big. I love the gun overall and it is a lot of fun to shoot. Hope you choose a SA XD too.

You can't go wrong with SA--they make great pistols.I tried the XP but can't get used to the DA trigger.I prefer a single-action auto and decided on a Springfield V10 Ultra-compact in .45acp.It's a bit heavy for a small pistol(33oz),but that, the Hogue grips, and the ported 3.5"barrel really control recoil

Have you shot it at night yet? I only ask because I wonder about muzzle flash in dark situations.

I'll definitely have to give this one a look though, I do like the .45 acp.

I too have been looking at getting a CCW handgun. I've looked at the SA XD and like it a lot, but I've also noticed some of the S&W pistols lately and wondered how they might compare.

Then I received a Bass Pro ad today that lists the S&W Sigma pistol kit (gun in 9mm or 40cal, 2 magazines, combat light) for $380.

Does anybody have experience, good or bad, with the S&W Sigma? How well does it compare to a XD?

I got the 9mm compact XD and love it. It shoots nice, when I talked to the salesman he talked about how the ported barrels flare out and would not be best at night, otherwise night shooting is just fine.

Has anybody used by a SA XD in 40S&W and a Glock 23 in the same caliber? I'm wondering what sort of comparison, pluses/minuses of each, someone familiar with both would make.

I looked at the XD in 40, the Glock 23, and the S&W M&P in 40 at Bass Pro last night. The salesman had a lot of experience with all three but admitted he was a "Glock guy" and seemed biased towards it. But it was lighter and somewhat smaller than the XD and M&P and definitely got me wondering (I'd never even considered Glock before that).

Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've shot the XD in 40 (b/c I own a SC 40) and the Glock 19 (in 9mm). They are very close in comparison. For me, and many others, it was a preference for the extra grip safety and the striker and loaded chamber indicators, as well as, the feel of the grip. Whenever I held or shot a Glock, I felt like my wrist was at too much of an angle. The XD felt much better in my hand. It's really a personal preference. You should go to the range and shoot them both (a friend's or rentals).

In terms of accessories, they are plentiful and easily accessible for the Glock. And this is changing rapidly for the XD. As a matter of fact, you can even get the Crimson Trace Lasergrips for the XD now.

I finally got out and picked one up. It's an XD 40 with a 3" barrel. It's great to shoot. I like the grip angle on the XD also, It really feels like my 1911 when I point it.

Bought an XD 40 SC tonight. I also picked up 250 rounds of 180gr practice ammo. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend.

Now my next question: Other than the Pearce grip extenders mentioned previously, any good suggestions for accessories, personal defense ammo, concealed carry holsters, etc.?

This could get very expensive, very quickly. :)

I load with Federal Hydra-Shok for personal defense. In terms of a good IWB concealed carry holster, I use the Supertuck from Crossbreed Holsters. I also use the Galco M5X Matrix for OWB carrying.
