bfletch7441
I've been shopping for a new CCW. The Springfield XD looks like a heck of a pistol. I'm looking at a .40 S&W with a 4" or possibly 3" barrel if that makes any difference. Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks. PotashRLS
I bought a .45acp in the black tactical 5" just because. It is very accurate and fits my hands well. The 5" barrel helps the recoil recovery too. Our liberal Governor keeps vetoing our Concealed Carry bill in Wisconsin so I can't help you on the carry part. I wouldn't carry this gun anyway as it's frame is a bit big. I love the gun overall and it is a lot of fun to shoot. Hope you choose a SA XD too. bfletch7441
Yeah, that's why I'm considering the 4" and maybe 3" model. I've got a Colt 1911 that I keep in my bedside table, but the .45acp is a bit much for a shorter, more concealable, weapon. Ben
A10acfan1
I have a 9mm in the 3" model and my son has the .40 in a 4 ". Excellent pistols. No problems and I like the additional grip safety. Can't be too safe these days.
JimPic
You can't go wrong with SA--they make great pistols.I tried the XP but can't get used to the DA trigger.I prefer a single-action auto and decided on a Springfield V10 Ultra-compact in .45acp.It's a bit heavy for a small pistol(33oz),but that, the Hogue grips, and the ported 3.5"barrel really control recoil
mule659
I love my xd...I have a 4" barrel in 9mm and it has been great, never had the slightest malfunction.
Rem308
My friend bought one of these XD .45 back a few months...he has been very pleased and I really like shooting it. He carries it as his CCW most of the time, sometimes he does say it's a bit heavy though.

I only ask because I wonder about muzzle flash in dark situations. I'll definitely have to give this one a look though, I do like the .45 acp. JimPic
Ben--I did shoot it at dusk but not at night(range closes at sunset). It did have some flash to it,though

Good looking pistol for sure! Can't beat the classic polished stainless. Ben
elnor
I too have been looking at getting a CCW handgun. I've looked at the SA XD and like it a lot, but I've also noticed some of the S&W pistols lately and wondered how they might compare. Then I received a Bass Pro ad today that lists the S&W Sigma pistol kit (gun in 9mm or 40cal, 2 magazines, combat light) for $380. Does anybody have experience, good or bad, with the S&W Sigma? How well does it compare to a XD?
bfletch7441
I saw that ad too. Looks like a really nice piece with some pretty cool features. Ben
HarvDog
I specifically bought my SA XD40 subcompact as my CCW and absolutely love it. I probably could have gone with the full 4" barrel but I love the smaller grip with the Pearce grip extension.

bfletch7441
Here's mine by the way.... That's the one I've got my eye on, except I'd like to find it in the drab green. How do you like handling the 3" barrel? Accuracy? How about target acquisition on multiple shots? Thanks Ben
HarvDog
It does have a bit of a jump but it's still very accurate. A great forum for SA XDs is http://www.xdtalk.com/
slugshooter
I had the 4" 9mm. I liked it overall, but I think I got the fluke of the bunch though because after 500 or so rounds the extractor shattered. Springfield replaced it in about a week or so. Overall a good pistol for the money.
Guest swmnk9training
I got the 9mm compact XD and love it. It shoots nice, when I talked to the salesman he talked about how the ported barrels flare out and would not be best at night, otherwise night shooting is just fine. elnor
Has anybody used by a SA XD in 40S&W and a Glock 23 in the same caliber? I'm wondering what sort of comparison, pluses/minuses of each, someone familiar with both would make. I looked at the XD in 40, the Glock 23, and the S&W M&P in 40 at Bass Pro last night. The salesman had a lot of experience with all three but admitted he was a "Glock guy" and seemed biased towards it. But it was lighter and somewhat smaller than the XD and M&P and definitely got me wondering (I'd never even considered Glock before that). Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I've shot the XD in 40 (b/c I own a SC 40) and the Glock 19 (in 9mm). They are very close in comparison. For me, and many others, it was a preference for the extra grip safety and the striker and loaded chamber indicators, as well as, the feel of the grip. Whenever I held or shot a Glock, I felt like my wrist was at too much of an angle. The XD felt much better in my hand. It's really a personal preference. You should go to the range and shoot them both (a friend's or rentals). In terms of accessories, they are plentiful and easily accessible for the Glock. And this is changing rapidly for the XD. As a matter of fact, you can even get the Crimson Trace Lasergrips for the XD now.

I like the grip angle on the XD also, It really feels like my 1911 when I point it. Ben

elnor
Bought an XD 40 SC tonight. I also picked up 250 rounds of 180gr practice ammo. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend. Now my next question: Other than the Pearce grip extenders mentioned previously, any good suggestions for accessories, personal defense ammo, concealed carry holsters, etc.? This could get very expensive, very quickly.

I also use the Galco M5X Matrix for OWB carrying.
