muggs
For the 2nd time in 3 years, the Indians GM has been named "MLB Executive of the Year" by the Sporting News. Pretty high honors considering it was voted on by his peers. He started the year with the 27th lowest total salary and led them to the best record in baseball and one win of the World Series- all done with 0 high priced free agents and a boatload of homegrown, young talent. Four years ago, he also gave Eric Wedge, a relatively unknown young AA manager the reins to the big league club. That was a move questioned by many (including myself) and Wedgy will probably be manager of the year...guess that's why he's Mark Shapiro, and I'm me. No doubt, the Indians are the class organization of major league baseball. Now that one of his assistants has taken on the Bucos GM position, that makes 4 current GM's who've all been groomed in the Tribe's system. btw- That could easily have been 5 current GM's but Shaprio's main man, Chris Anntonetti, turned down an offer to GM the Cardinals...can't say I blame him either, that's an old, over-paid garbage roster right there, ain't that right Todd? btw2- not only do we have the best MLB GM, we still have LeBron, my Buckeyes are #1 in the nation, the Tribe is bringing back all their main guys, even the freaking Browns are 5-3, and Thad Matta is a recruiting legend who's about to turn OSU into a basketball and football school. It's good to be alive, and this is Ohio's world..."y'all" just be glad we let you be a part of it.:D
MCH
So exactly what are you trying to say???? You're satisfied with not winning championships???
toddyboman
So exactly what are you trying to say???? You're satisfied with not winning championships??? Thats what it sounds to me :D Does your gm get a ring or a trophy stating hes the best but his team isn't for that kind of award....
muggs
As much as I would have loved going through both New York and Boston on to a WS the Tribe would have obviously won, it's hard to say that season was a dissappointment. Afterall, it was better than all of 4 teams, and much, much better than the Dodgers, Bucos, and Cardinals. Wouldn't you say?:D btw- sorry, but I haven't been an obnoxious jerk lately and I think I'm suffering from withdrawl. btw- I've lost count of Big Ten Championships the Buckeyes have won. Cavs were Eatern Conference Champs, Tribe were Champs of the Central and the Division. Sure, not going all the way, but hey, I'm a glass half-full type of guy Kev. I'll take that over a lot of other alternatives.
toddyboman
Hey guess what your Indians got the same view of the WS as my Red Birds.... So whats your point.
muggs
Honestly, after we beat the Yankees, I was happy and fulfilled.
toddyboman
The average age of the Red Birds is 30 The average age of the Indians is
muggs
CC 27 Grady 24 Franklin Gutierrez 24 Fausto Carmona 23 Ryan Garko 27?? Victor Martinez 28, maybe 27 Rafeal Perez 24 Ben Fransisco 24 There's two potential CY Young and an a couple MVP canidates in that list. who you got under 28?? Jim Edmonds is 50 and Rolen is doner than done.
MCH
Russell Martin 24 Chad Billingsley 23 Jonathan Broxton 23 Tony Abreu 22 Andy Laroche 24 Andre Ethier 25 Matt Kemp 23 Delwyn Young 25 Clayton Kershaw 19 So?
muggs
Kev, no one cares about the Dodgers. No, seriously, tremendous young talent on that team, that's for sure. But my point is, although the average age of the Cardinals is close to that of the Tribe, it's the quality of players under that average age that sets those two teams apart. btw- I forgot about Jhonny Peralta who's 26 I think. Andy Laroche 24 Andre Ethier 25 Delwyn Young 25 Clayton Kershaw 19 Tony Abreu 22 ...nice try. Let's put on our GM hats for a minute. If I offered to give you Sizemore and Carmona for those 5 bums...you'd take that in a New York minute and you know it.
MCH
LMAO. Bud you better do a little research. I wouldn't give you Kershaw for your whole team. There's not a GM out there right now that wouldn't love to have Kershaw on their team. I've got to give Carmona his props, but the hype for Kershaw is greater than his ever was. But I will concede that Abreu, Ethier and MAYBE Young are a ways off from being all-stars. But since you included Garko and Guiterezz, I figured it was only fair. buckbuster11
Lets see.... All the current Cleveland teams are the best ever...even though they can't seem to find their rings...maybe they got lost in the dryer?? And the Dodgers have the best collection of athletic talent ever known to man kind...and even though they were supposed to go 162-0 the last three seasons this year will be the year. Glad to see nothing has changed DB's.
toddyboman
who you got under 28?? Not sure exactly but I do have a lot of players with a ring....What do you got... let see under 28... some guy named Albert Pujols... I think he is going to be good. But we also have... Adam Wainwright Yadier Molina Rick Ankiel Chris Duncan Ryan Ludwick just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Glad to see nothing has changed DB's. Hey, AF, where did I say that?? My point was that he didn't have a point. Take any team out there and you can name a bunch of young players. Just look at the Pirates....90% of their team are barely old enough to drive.
MCH
BTW---did anybody happen to hear who won the gold glove for catchers in the NL??? His name sounds familar? It sounds just like this guy you two, DB's used to rag me about because I thought he was the next "big thing". :D
Tominator
Yeah, that's cool. So, what was his ERA again? Or was it his RBI's that got him the "honor."
MCH
Laugh all you want. Everyone knows he's the best catcher in the majors. And he's only 24.
muggs
Todd, Ryan Ludwick is a Tribe cast off bud, and he's older than 28. He's the best AAA outfielder we've ever had, the Crash Davis of the Buffalo Bisons. Pujols, I'll give you, obviously. But the Tribes "core" players are all young, very young. You can't say that about your Redbirds, even as much as you're trying to. Kev, are you really trying to say another 19 year old is going to be Babe Ruth...it's like Deja Vu all over again. If Shapiro offered Sizemore and Carmona for Crenshaw, Kershaw- whatever 19 year old "phenom" the Dodgers have- the Dodgers GM would not only sign off on that deal so fast he'd sprain his wrist, he's also ship Shapiro the deed to his house and his first born daughter once she became of age. Are you really going to sit there, as a Dodgers fan no less, and say you wouldn't take a 24 year old, Gold Glove centerfielder, who will finish in anybody's top ten for the MVP race this year, AND a 23 year old flamethrower who's going to finish 3rd, maybe even 2nd for the AL Cy Young, for a freaking 19 year old who won't even see the field for another 2-3 years?? Honestly?? I mean, hanging on to all that "young talent" has really brought the Dodgers a lot of sucess recently and all (), but you have to like that deal...I don't care who you are. MCH
Here's the sad thing...you're sitting here doing more bragging than I would be doing if the Dodgers won it all, Muggsy. My only beef with the Indians is that you're their fan.:D If it weren't for that, I would probably think Carmona is the next coming of Bob Gibson. You rag me for bringing up the Dodgers farm system all the time, yet you don't step back and see that you are much worse.
toddyboman
I don't think I every stated my red birds were the youngest of teams... But what team has won their division and/or made it to the playoffs more the past few years.... Whats all this young talent done for the dodgers(sorry kev)....nothing So what makes you think your young talents is going to do anything... Heck in a year or so when they all become free agents they will all go to whomever pays them the most...

Oh no, make no mistake, I realize it, and I embrace it. Call me crazy, but somewhere, skewed in between the light rays emitting from the computer screen I'm starring, it just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to me, and hypocracy merges with cheap fun while I'm bored at work. I don't know if I've taken one-to-many towel snaps to the rear in my day, but for some reason, sports is one venue where bustin' a guy's chops in good fun always seemed to fit. Just relax bud. We all know, once 2011 rolls around, and Casey Cremshaw just won his 24th game for the Dodgers, you'll be here posting about.
