Sherm_Hill
When you are going to decoy deer in the morning, is it best to set up the decoy in the dark and then go to your stand or blind or wait until it is light then setup the decoy? sherwood8701
What scent should I use on my decoy? Also should I use it as a buck decoy or remove the antlers???
natethebowhunter
i'd do it while it is still dark. when i put mine out as a buck the does usually are very curious and skittishly circle it trying to figure it out. when the bucks see the buck decoy they kinda just sit in one spot once they see it and move their ears trying to hear it do something i guess. when i use it as a doe the does and bucks ran away from it without even checking it out. i made sure to be scent free. so far i havent had a deer actually come up to the decoy. never any closer to it than 20 yards. but i have been given many shot oppurtunities while using the decoys. ccwhitey
there was a good article on the home page about decoy. it said that you should never touch the decoys with your bare hands. He said that he had better luck with a buck decoy that faced him. Placing the decoy so that it would face him usually made the buck circle to face the decoy head on, which usually gives him a broad side shot. I personally would set it up in the dark so you have a slimer chance of spooking a deer
