wtnhunt
Think there are some fine choices in .243 and .25-06 both for varmint and deer rifles. The wife shoots a savage model 10 chambered in .243 and that rifle is an absolute tack driver. She has killed a couple deer with it and think the furthest one has gone has been about 25 yards. Texan_Til_I_Die
I don't think you'll find that standard calibers, in this case 25-06, makes any difference in the price of a firearm. Most rifles are priced according to their model, not their caliber. As far as a good inexpensive rifle, I really like Savage. Especially those with the adjustable triggers. johnf
Cheap 25-06 here you go. http://hr1871.com/Order_Online/rifles/sb2-806.aspx Get one of these put good glass on it and don't look back. I've got 4 nef guns all shoot sub moa and my 25-06 will clover leaf with factory 100gr Rem Corelokd.
LifeNRA
squirrelyman34 said: im want it for varmit to bear or an all around gun. Then go for a .30-06! There are so many different loads for this gun that will allow you to shoot varmit to bear. JMHO!
Guest wthomaslee
I agree. A 30-06 would be hard to beat in this classroom. Check out a Remington ADL. Wal-mart has'em on clearance for 300+or- and will last a lifetime if taken care of. You can buy factory loads for everything but the biggest bears but will still work in a pinch. Nothing against johnf's idea but when I'm hunting something that will eat meat I'll carry more than a single shot. I've had some hunts go by the hair off my chin a few times. Its better to have knockdown and not need it than need it and not have it. Bears can be very mean when wounded. A hurt hog wouldn't be nothing to snort at either. Really what I'm saying is an all around gun needs to "do it all" not most of it. Something to think about.
tped
Not sure what you consider "pricey" but there are several good guns that can be had in the $400-$650 range. Already owning a 243 - I would go for something larger than a 25-06 for the second rifle. Agree with the others on maybe a 30-06 but then again I would just go for a 300WSM and be done with it. I agree; the cartridge choice doesn't influence the price of most rifles. As for rifles, Savage, with their excellent Accutrigger, or a stainless Ruger Hawkeye would be my choice for 25-06. Guest bow_hunter101
As far as an quality, affordable rifle I would recommend Savage 100%. And if your looking for something for varmint to bear I'd go with a .30-06 or a 7mm WSM.
