JimPic Posted January 7, 2005 Report Share Posted January 7, 2005 I hunt with a recurve.As for what weight--shoot whatever you're comfortable shooting.If you're just starting out,I'd suggest something around 40-45#.With a sharp broadhead,this would be plenty for deer and pigs. Now with a 45# recurve and an arrow that is 10 gpp (grains per pound of draw wieght) you should be ok. Or better said an arrow that is 450 to 550 grains with tip off a 45 to 55 pound bow. Tradition hunters tend to go real heavy for higher momentum. Its not unrealistic to see 600 grain arrows out of 55# bows.. Not sure about hunting hogs since they are a bit thicker and a lot more tough on muscle groups but I would not worry about hunting deer with a 45# with a 450 to 500g arrow. But no less.
