My father has some hearing loss, he prefers the Midlands over Motorola's. I have been playing with four sets of radio's since we got rid of the first pair of Midlands. So far these are working good! As far as range goes. It all depends on terrain!

Stay away from CB's!!! I was into CB's many years ago, and learned they are only at their best at night! Unless you have them hooked to a powerful wattage booster called a linear! Which is illegal in some states! LOL! I still have the hand held 40 channel CB that I got from radio shack about 15 years ago. But the main problem is the sun burst that occur on the suns surface. They interfere with a lot of radio transmissions.

Most of the radios out there are FRS(family Radio signal) type radios. Many have radios that work on those frequencies, thats why you have so much bleed over. Same type of radios that family's take to amusement parks.

The radios we use at our deer camp are Motorola Spirits. They are a little bigger than an index card and about an inch thick. These are real deal walkie talkies. Just like the ones that we use on our construction sites. Matter of fact I got them from work. They were upgrading and I snatched these up with chargers for a song. That batteries last incredibly long too. NO INTERFERENCE at all.

You need to be careful though...some radios need a FCC license to transmit legally.

Its actually called SOLAR FLARES! Not sun bursts! LOL! These are what interferes with radio transmissions!

Any radio that uses any GMRS frequencies require a FCC license. Anything on FRS (Family Radio Service) do not require a license, but they also have no power. You have to remember that radio manufactures test their radio's at sea level and under optimum conditions. Total, buy a set from Cabela's! If they don't suit you they will just take them back! I returned three other units because they were really bad!
