johnf
Today was the first day of modern gun season for us. I've been hunting a clear cut that been pretty promising. Up until today I've pretty much been the only one out there. Today about 15 minutes after first light the dog running began. I don't know where they came from, don't know whos they are. All I know is that today is the first day I haven't seen a single deer. I did hear lots of dogs though and I guess to some folks that's exciting. wtnhunt
We get dogs running deer here every year, but not from dog deer hunters, just loose strays and or wild dog packs. Have trail cam pics of dogs behind deer within about a minute:(. Running deer with dogs here is illegal. I will say though that one morning had just about given up hopes after dogs ran all through back and forth out in front of me and I got so irritated I shot into the ground to scare them off. Later on that morning just before I was about ready to get down, I killed a mature buck coming along the same path the dogs had gone down:eek:. rhine16
Thanks for reminding me of what saturday morning will sound like. Bark, Bark, Boom, boom, boom, bark, bark, bark, bark, boom, bark,....well you get the picture. And i'll be sitting up in a tree with a bow in my hand waiting on a big boy to slip out of the bedding area and onto my land.
HuntnMa
too bad they don't have a week or two just for dog hunting....i'm not for it, but it is a tradition for many hunters, would hate to see any hunting days taken away from any hunter.... Guest Scottishhunter
I hate it too along with trophy hunting endangered species such as polar bears etc. Its unethical and people that do it are not true hunters.

Apologies for briefly hijacking the thread, but in the interest of accuracy I want to point out that as of now, the polar bear is on neither the Endangered or Threatened Species List. Annual harvest is between 500 and 700 bears or 2-3% of the world population of about 22,000 bears. Most polar bears are killed by indigenous people (Inuits) and this hunt has an important cultural role. The financial return from the sale of polar bear hides is also an important income for local people. Back on topic, the problem I have with running deer with dogs is that it can interfere with so many other people's hunts. As long as you keep the dogs on private land where you have permission to run them so no one else is bothered, I say "go for it".

Guest nyhunter24
should be illegal everywhere, unless your tracking a wounded animal
