OhioMatt
So i took my girlfriend of 2 years out bow hunting with me lastnight and as far as i can tell she enjoyed it. Saw a few deer mostly does that stayed about 80-100 yards out. It took her a little persuasion to get her to climb up in the stand but once she did she was fine. She took her hunter safety course last january and I want to get her into bow hunting. Should i start her with a crossbow or compound bow? She has shot my compound before but needs one that fits her a littile better. Any suggestions on bow types?

wildside
First of all, welcome to the forums! That's great that you're introducing your girlfriend to hunting and that she's enjoying it. Same thing happened with me and my husband when we were dating! I shoot a Parker bow and love it. I'm not the biggest person in the world, and by pulling 50 pounds I have still been successful in hunting with it. We started by setting me up with the usual pin site, and a few years ago I switched to a single red illuminated type of site where you keep both eyes open. Weird, but I shoot better than I did with the pins. No peep. In other words, I recommend keeping her bow simple and streamlined. After she's shot a few years she can add bells and whistles if she wants, but I think simple is better. Good luck and most of all, enjoy that special time together out there in the great outdoors! Guest bow_hunter101
Check out the PSE Nova. A girl I used to date and her mom both had one and it was a perfect set up for them.
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Think I would get her a compound, and make sure to also get her a armguard of some sort. My wife shoots a browning micro adrenaline, adjustable draw and weights.

My wife shoots a browning micro adrenaline, adjustable draw and weights. Thats the bow I had been looking at. what weight does your wife shoot? I know that my girlfriend will shoot a lower weight in the beginning because I want her to develope good shooting mechanics. What would you consider to be a good draw weight for women when hunting? wtnhunt
Hers is adjustable 40-50 lbs. I backed the bow off as far as I could when she started and gradually raised it. She can pull 50 lbs now, but I have it set at one full turn from the max draw weight. Not sure exactly what it is set at as far as the exact poundage, but 40 lbs with the right arrow combo will kill a deer with proper placement.
