woodshed
I'm fairly new to rifles being from Illinois. Now I'm in Missouri and have a Model 70 with a wooden stock for a few years now. I bought it new and only use it on dry days. I got caught in the rain today with it. What do you all do when your rifles get wet? Do I have to take it apart to get under the barrell dry? I'm worried it will be rusting under there. I took the floor plate/trigger guard off and it was wet up inside there as well. thanks
Guest gunny97
rifles Do yourself a favor and when you can put that gun in a senthetic stack . wood stocks swell when the temp changes and water gets in them. but for this season take a dollar bill and see if it will slide around the barrell all the way to the reciever . if it will your ok. if it wont then when the wood swells it will affect your bullet strike each time diferent. in the case that you cant slide it to the reciever take the stock off and carefully sand the inside to the point that no wood touches . then put some kind of wood protectant on ti and put the gun abck together. your zero should be good but test it to make sure
wtnhunt
It is a fact of life with hunting with rifles that they will get wet on occasions. If time permits I usually will disassemble completely and give a thorough cleaning as soon as I can after my guns get wet. At the very least I will wipe the gun down as soon as I can.
