20 ga. slugs for Rem 870

I've got a Remington 870 20 ga., and I've always shot really cheap slugs through it. I'm going to upgrade, but need some suggestions. Has anyone had experience testing different slugs with this gun? Do I need rifled or sabot? I read the thread about Hornadys and Lightfields, but would still like to hear a few responses to my specific questions. Thanks a lot!

Take care,

Ryan

Hey Ryan...

I just went thought a whole bunch of .20ga slug shooting with my son. If your barrel is a smoothbore, then you will need forster type(rifled slugs). If your barrel is rifled then the Sabots are the way to go unless they are the type that can be used in both smooth and rifled barrels. My sons rifled barreled Mossberg shot the 3"Brenneke slugs the best. My smooth bore Mossberg .12ga shot the rifled slug Remington Sluggers best. 2nd the Federal Power Shock. All 2 3/4".

For the best shotgun accuracy I would recommend a rifled barrel.

If the loads you use are cheap and they shoot good...Lucky you!

Well said Anthony! I shoot Brennekes through my smooth bore.
