HuntingInMaine
I recently started making my own bath and body products and wanted to make an all-natural cover scent spray from essential oils. I've been searching formulas and a lot of them swear that anise oil has been used by fishermen and hunters as a cover scent for years. I've heard of using it around bear bait, but was wondering if anyone had ever used it to cover human scent while hunting? I'm thinking about mixing a couple pine EO's with birch and balsam but am hesitant to add the anise until I hear from others who have had good luck with it. Thanks! Tominator
I believe Trails End 308 is mostly Anise. I used it once. Once.
HuntingInMaine
LOL That's what I was afraid of! Thanks for the info...I think I'll be leaving that oil out of the mix...
stevebeilgard
you have a good idea, and i wish you luck with it. i'd use a scent blocker idea rather than a scent cover up. and keep it natural, something that a hunter can crawl into the sleeping bag and sleep with. RangerClay
Whats wrong with a little Anise oil? I see deer eating licorice all the time.

Never used anise as an attractant, but vanilla works well as a curiosity scent.

Funny, I can never seem to find that stuff growing around the deer woods! Personally I would stay away from anise oil.
JimT
Hmm... You ask about shooting bears in your hunting area then want to cover yourself in anise. Probably not a good idea...lol. I would vote against it.
buckee
Anise works great as a bear attractant. It's been used for years.
