buckee
There have been a few pictures of black whitetails posted in here, in the past. Too bad you didn't have your camera with you. They are definately rarer than piebalds and albinos. Pretty cool sighting

buckee
Re: Black whitetail Black Whitetail Black Fallow deer Fallow have the widest variation of coat colouration or pelage of wild British deer, ranging from very dark brown or black to white. White Fallow are not albinos as their eyes are normally pigmented, although their hooves and noses tend to be lighter than usual. There are four main colours in European Fallow which are: Common, Menil, White and Black or Melanistic.

tedicast
Re: Black whitetail It must be really weird seeing an all black deer. We have some black squirrels around here, and it is so odd seeing a squirrel that is the wrong color. Must be even odder with a deer. bulldawg
Re: Black whitetail About 16 years ago, I went hunting on a crisp, very cold morning. At about 9 a.m, I see what appeared to be a huge chocolate colored dog coming at me from a long distance. As it closed the distance, I noticed something up by it's head. At about a hundred yards, I could see that it was in fact a very big buck, with a huge set of antlers on his head. He knew something wasn't right about entering the woods where I sat, even though I was 23 feet in the air. That was the last I saw of him.
