Bonds indicted

Four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice. He faces up to 30 years, but we all know if convicted, he'll hardly serve a fraction of that.

Now all the Bonds supporters are going to say, "Steriods don't make you hit home runs!"

Then why take them? To make your head bigger? :D

Why risk your career, health, and life if they don't help?

I agree that he was a great player before the juice, but his decision to cheat ruined everything he accomplished in his career. He'll always be a selfish jerk, IMO.

Kind of have mixed thoughts on this topic to be honest, and on the whole steroid issue. In reality I think it should not be and should not have been brought to congress to make decisions in organized sports as we have been seeing lately. There should be people in those organizations who should be competent and held accountable for dealing with these types of issues without getting the government involved. At the same time I think it is a crying shame so many are using, and abusing drugs to try to make themselves better than what nature gave them. Barry Bonds should be held accountable for his perjury charges no question about it, but really think congress should have better things to do than to get involved with sports. Just my opinion, and I agree with Orlan that Bonds should end up in prison and be stripped of his record.

There's actually a reason for Congress' involvement William. Don't quote me exactly on this, because it's been a while since I've read about it and the details are a little fuzzy, but I can give you the basic idea.

Congress became linked to MBL back in the 1920's, when guys like Rockefeller were getting hit with all the anti-trust laws, breaking up their monopolies etc... Major League Baseball was essentially considered a monopoly at the time, so the wealthy and influencial MLB Owner's petitioned Congress to be exempted from the anti-trust laws. Some money probably changed hands, and the exemption was granted. But in exchange I believe Congress reserved some rights and controls. That's why they're getting involved with the roids thing now.

If you think about it, MLB is the only sport the Congress is investigating etc... Other sports like cycling and the NFL govern and establish their own steroid policies. And the NFL has some competitors, like the failed XFL and the Arena league. Baseball doesn't have any competition due to the exemption.

I also think the Commissioner is either appointed by Congress or is at least "recommended" to the Owners by Congress. Pretty interesting stuff, and it's also something you don't really hear about.

Basically, what muggsy said.

While the anti-trust situation has nothing to do with the steroid issue, it does put Major League Baseball under the jurisdiction of Congress.

I'm pretty sure the MLB is wondering right now whether having control over whether a team can move or not is worth all this steroid controversy.

speaking all this, has that Mitchell report come out publically yet? I heard there were 11 current free agents on that list...I wonder if A-Rod is one of them...that would be HUGE!!

That also might explain why other teams didn't show interest in him and why he had to re-up with the Spankees. Man, this is starting to make sense, I hope I'm right.
