Guest ExtremeSoloDubV
On my property they are putting 6 gas wells. They cleared 2 unbelievable roads through our property. Did a great job on the roads. However, when they cleared the paths, they piled up the trees along the side of the roads pretty high and thick in some spots. It kind of creates a barrier. My question is has anyone had something like this on their property? I am curious how the deer will react to this. I know they find a way around everything, but do you think its possible for them to make paths through this "tree buildup" b/c some spots are places where the deer traveled heavily into a bedding area. SInce I was little, this is the first time anything like this has been done to the property. I figured someone out there has had something similar to this done and could help me out. You guys always seem to do!
VABuckSlayer
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? I haven't had anything done quite like that but I bet you could cut out a small area for them and create a funnel with it. Might be an opportunity. Use this to your benefit!! Cut placs for the deer to cross through where it is best spots for treestands and ground blinds. I would actually cut straight through the piled up brush for the deer to cross, but I would cut in aways (in the middle of the path you cleared) back up into the brush maybe 5 yards or so and kinda "hollow out" a place to sit. You can ambush as they walk through there and would have total concealment!!
Ravin R10 man
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? definately cut a crossing out where they are used to crossing.....and try to find an ambush site, a good tree stand or ground blind set up...stay downwind, or crosswind of the crossings you intend to hunt. Tominator
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? Yep, happened to our lease the last year we had it. What I found was that the deer changed their travel patterns, but actually used the brush to bed in. I jumped numerous deer out of those tree tops. It might actually improve your area by creating new edge habitat. Do your pre-season scouting, but I'd guess once you find the new travel routes, you'll be fine. dogdoc
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? i would plant the roads with rye or ryegrass and clover--then cut paths or trails thru the brush--they will start using those cut paths----a great ambush point! todd

Guest ExtremeSoloDubV
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? DogDoc, The gas co. signed in the contract w/ our family that they are going to do soil samples, fertilize, and plant whatever we want. So, everything that they tore up while making the roads will be planted a nice plot mix. Im thinking about going with Imperial Whitetail Clover. Hopefully this will create a nice "edge"

superguide
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? Brush Windrows are great to hunt along or to make a stand in-eventually the deer will make their own paths through them and you'll have some good stand sites. Typically you'll find new growth at the edge which usually has lush stuff like honeysuckle, new trees, and other low growing stuff that deer love to forage on. They also use it as staging areas before heading out in the evening to feed in the open areas.
buckee
Re: Anyone Have any experience with this???? Whenever things like this happen on a piece of property, it definately changes the deer travel patterns. Like said above, it also opens up a new area for some good eats. You can use the situation to your advantage, even though it looks terrible at first glance. If there is a place at the end of these piles, where the deer are going around, you have yourself a new funnel area already. If your not saticfied with where the deer are getting around these piles, because of being on other property or too close to someone elses property, then, like suggested above...make your own funnels, by clearing a pathway through it for them. Things like this always change the deers travel patterns, but at the same time, funnel them around it, or through it somewhere, which can work for you, instead of against you. Good luck with your scouting and homework in this matter. [ QUOTE ] The gas co. signed in the contract w/ our family that they are going to do soil samples, fertilize, and plant whatever we want.
