ChasinTail
Had a buck that would rival my best deer to date step out 15 minutes before dark tonight. I had a perfect clear broadside shot at maybe 15 yards. I pulled the trigger and heard a ting instead of a pow! He took off and blew about 8 times. I grunted hoping to draw him back in with no luck. My stomach hurts now! =( I have the bullet with the hammer dent in it. Crap!
Turkeygirl
That stinks. Keep at it. He might be back. Did you find out why your gun didn't fire?

ChasinTail
I'm not sure if it was the gun or the bullet. Like I said, the bullet had a ding on the cap, but it didn't quite seem like it was hit hard enough. I know I was in shock though when it didn't go off. I was very suprised he spooked like he did just from that one click too!
jbeck
I had that happen on 2 longbeards with there heads lined up at 15 yards. Heart breaking I'll tell you. The spring was bad on the firing pin. Good luck, hope you get him.
wtnhunt
Have never had that happen to me hunting with a modern rifle fortunately, but did once have a hang up on a cap that did not ignite my powder on my old side lock ml on a nice 8 pointer. It is a sick feeling for sure.
Guest MartinArcher
had the same thing happen last season on the biggest buck Ive ever seen in the wood's at 25 yds(where I hunt in the adiron dacks of ny there are 1-2 deer per square mile so just seeing deer is hard enough)Gun is gone along with brand of ammo I was using, won't happen again (not with that gun).So I can relate.stay with it. mehunter
What where shooting at the time? I had it happen once on my muzzle loader because there was some crud around the firing pin.
ChasinTail
I was shooting a Mossberg 30-06. Very cheap from Walmart but I was letting my dad use my good gun. I shot it 30 times in the last two weeks at the range without trouble. I don't have much confidence in it now.

Texan_Til_I_Die
For safety purposes, you need to properly dispose of the round with the dented primer. It's not likely, but it is possible that the round could go off at some later point in time.
QDMAworks4me
Sorry to hear that it did not fire, you might want to give it a real good cleaning just to make sure. If that does not work it might be a good idea to take it to a gunsmith and have him take a look at it to make sure everything is in working order. Just my 2 cents. Good luck next time
RangerClay
Were you shooting factory ammo or reloads?
ChasinTail
you need to properly dispose of the round with the dented primer Not sure if it was the proper way, but I threw the bullet in the pond cause I didnt want to hang on to it. Also, it was Remington factory bullets, not my own reload.

OJR
I would take a couple of shots with the rifle to make sure it is not the firing pin! Good luck!
