Shootin' a doe?

If you're hunting for meat, certainly. If you're hunting for 2 wallhangers, then probably not. All depends on what your goals are.

If you think about it, there really isn't a "perfect" time to kill a doe, although we all know we need to in order to control the herd. Early season...they are likely still milkin' their fawns. Mid-Oct thru end...know where the does are, the bucks will follow. November...best thing to bring in a buck is a hot doe... December/January....they're now pregnant...do you want to kill a fetus as well?

Me? I'm gonna smoke the next doe that presents itself. Got firewood for the winter....now I just to stock the freezer.

If you have plenty of deer around...go ahead and whack one. Thats my theory :) Yeah if you shoot one early in the year, then she cant drag that big one past your stand. But one less doe around creates more competition for the bucks to find a hot one so they may have to look a little harder. Gettin a buck off its lazy butt and moving around is half the battle :) And the fetus thing?? whether u shoot her now or in sept, she aint having no fawn.

Depends but....

I think it depends on what you're after. I took a doe this season, because I don't believe I'll get a chance to hunt late bow season. There's nothing wrong with doing that, however I did do my research. I found and took an old doe that I'm pretty sure didn't have a fawn this season. I passed up several younger bucks. Some say I should've shot any of the bucks over the doe, but I say a doe like that I'll take and let a young buck grow on any day. It's really only when very large numbers of does are taken that it hurts the hunting and deer population. So, I say go for it if you're not holding out for an opportunity at a buck you want.

Except for the fact that they expire on the 29th!

What's up with that? I thought Ohio wanted to control the numbers, but I really don't think they do. No crop damage tags this year, and now an expiring doe tag.

My thoughts exactly.

The tags actually expire on the 25th though. If you Ohioans still have a $15 tag in your pocket, better get out this weekend and try to fill 'em. After that, the $15 tag is only good in urban zones.....which in my case means I'm having me a tag sammmich.

I was curoius what you guys thought about harvesting a doe this time of year? Here in NH it's rut time. I'm seein' tons of does. What do you think about takin' one? I got 2 tags one is any deer and the other is antlered only and haven't filled one yet. Season ends Dec 15. Think it's cool to harvest a doe now?

you better get to shootin'...;)
