Tominator
Finally got around to sighting in my Encore/Nikon Omega combination yesterday. Here's my info: All 4 shots used Winchester 777, 209 primers and 100 grs. of Pyrodex pellets. All four shots had a spit patch run through after each shot. Nikon suggested shooting at a 1" bull at 20 to 25 yards, so I set the target at 25 yards (lasered) and shot. The bullet was 3" low, and 4" right. I had my son move the reticle as the cross hairs moved to the bullet hole. The bullet I used on that shot was a Powerbelt 250 gr. I loaded again, (same setup) and shot again, and was right in the bull. So then I set the target at 100 yards (lasered again) as suggested by Nikon. This time I loaded a 250 gr. T/C Shockwave, shot, and I was within 1/2" of the aim point. Loaded again, same setup, shot, and touched the first 100 yd hole! <------ that was me after the 4th shot. I was pretty impressed. Now, I'm not done mind you, I realize 4 shots does not prove anything, but I'm feeling pretty good about my set up so far. I got some Barnes bullets that I'm going to try before gun season, and I want to see what the bullets will do at 30, and 50 yards. I might even try going out to 200 yards just for grins and giggles. Anyone have a similar set up and could give me an idea of what a bullet will do a closer ranges? I'm imagining they will hit high, but wondering by how much. Guest turkeyhuntr
I shoot a 250gr. Hornady SST. Dead on at 100 yds. is about 2.5 high at 50yds. I'm using 110 grs. of loose Pyrodex. Let me know if you have similar results. I think the TC Shockwave and the Hornady SST are very much alike.
bigmoss
I just ordered one of these scopes for my new Pro Hunter and and curious how you guys do. The way I understood it you could bore sight in the 100 circle and try and be dead on in the 10 ring, then every other circle would follow accordingly, is this not the case ? Tominator
Just as an update, my son took my Encore out last night for the last hunt of Ohio's youth season. We got lucky and spotted a button buck at about 80 yards. I watched my son pull back the hammer as I watched the deer he smoked the thing right through the heart! It took me awhile to find blood, but that deer didn't go 15 yards after I found blood. I've got a pic of the deer and the heart, but had issues with the photo post last night. wtnhunt
Sounds good Chris, good luck with it. I have my black diamond sighted in at an inch high at 100 yards, furthest shot on a deer to date with it was shown in my video I posted, roughly between 130 and 140 and I was aiming right behind the shoulder. Dont remember exactly how high it was at 50, but it is not enough to put it out of the kill zone if you are holding dead on the center of the vitals. Congratulations to your son. We have had great results here with the tc xtp mags in 240 grainers shooting a load of 120 grains of loose pyro. Great expansion and good penetration. The deer I shot this year sprayed blood anyone could follow. After some reading, I kind of considered trying the shockwaves and powerbelts, but really just do not see the need since these cheap bullets seem to perform really well for us. tped
I have both an Encore and Omega - My Encore has a Nikon Monarch 2x7 and the Omega a Leupold 2x7. Both shoot the same load equally well into tight little 1" groups at 100 yards. Load is 120grains of loose 777 behind the Barnes 250 grain expander sabots. I have not chronographed the Omega but did so with the Encore and I could not believe the consistency - I had a low of 2215 fps and high of 2217fps - I can't get that tight of deviation from my metallic handloads. billkay
You should be less than 1 inch low at 25 and about 1 inch high at 50. I use a Barnes 250grain SBT in one of my guns with 150 grains of 777 along with the Nikon Omega scope. You'll be suprised how good it will be at 200+.
