Stupid Question?

I feel stupid asking this but.......

I just got a new Mossberg .270 with a Bushnell Sportsman scope already attached. I took it to the range and it is shooting 3.5" low and 3/4" left @ 100 yards.

My question is this, how do you adjust the settings. I am not totally dimwitted here, I know "how" I just don't know which direction to turn the windage adjustments. I haven't sighted in a rifle in 20 years and I am drawing a blank

The writing on the windage knob says this;

Does this mean I turn the knob in the direction of the arrow to raise the shot (bullet) placement or to raise the reticle location? If it raises the reticle location then it will lower my shot placement.

Any knowledgable help is appreciated.

If my memory serves me right. If you turn the direction of the arrow it will raise your shot 1/4" for every click at a 100 yards. Same with the left and right.

Correct. If you want your point of impact to rise, move the elevation dial in the direction marked UP. If you want it to move right, move the windage dial in the direction marked RIGHT. I'm not 100% positive about that particular model of scope, but most scopes will move your impact point 1/4 inch (at 100 yards) for each click, so if you need to move it 1 inch, go 4 clicks.

I've also saw some sccccopes ,just like that one that did the oppiste as what it points.Got one on my rifle now.

Think all the scopes I have ever seen have been 1/4 inch @ 100 yards per click. If you hit under your aiming point, turn the knob for elevation in the counter clockwise direction, opposite if you hit above. If you hit right, turn the knob for windage in the clockwise direction.

So from what you posted(3 1/2 inches low and 3/4 inches left) here think you would want to go 14 clicks up or counter clockwise and 3 clicks R or counter clockwise.

That is what I was thinking. The windage adjustment on the side has the arrow pointing with the word LEFT so turning it the opposite direction should move my shot placement to the right.

Thanks a lot. I feel stupid for asking but I haven't sighted a rifle on 20 years and it was hard to recall that information from the dusty, cobweb covered memory files in the back of my brain.

my wife bought me the new 4x4 270 in laminate wood great gun.up and down is just what it says.but windage if i remember right if you want to bring your beam to the right you take it left.go opposite of what you want.i know one of my riffles do it and i'm pretty sure it is that one.
