Yeah, looks like it might be a hybrid. Too bad about the rack. My son said we have one like that around here....and we do. Not a hybrid but a buck with horns just like that one. If I see him....he's outta the gene pool for sure!!!

looks like he is missing half of his right leg. whenever deer break or injury one leg really bad the opposite side rack is usually messed up as well. so if a deer breaks its right leg getting hit by a car its left antler will be messed up.

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I've been out of town hunting. :D

First, there was nothing wrong with his front leg, it was just folded back in the picture. Second, his tail was very odd. The first 4 or 5 inches was solid black, then there was a 2 inch section of solid white, then another 2 inch section of solid brown at the tip. Gave him a ring tail look.

The blood on his neck is from a bullet hole from my 7 mag. Easy shot from 40 yards with a solid rest.

The oddest thing, and what really made me think it was a hybrid, was his butt. There was absolutely no hair growing around his butt or along the bottom of his tail! It wasn't worn or rubbed off, it just wasn't there. He looked like one of those baboons in the zoo.

I didn't get to see him run, so I don't know if he pogo'd.

He weighed about 200 pounds on the hoof, and I ended up using my mule deer tag on him.

Oh, and I'm not sure if you age mule deer the same as whitetails, but judging from tooth wear, I'd put him at 3.5 years old.
