Guest stuffdeer
Hello everyone, Currently I have a Mossberg 500, Rifled barrel, yadda, you know what it looks like. Come with the bird barrel. I put a scope on it, and love the gun. Shoots dead on at 100 yards. And now, I'm looking into a H&R SBS-980. Single Shot and comes with a scope. My Uncle bought a Single Shot, (Not an H&R), and I love how it shoots. I know, I'd be losing 4 shots, but In 5 years of hunting, I've never had to ake more then one shot. What is your guys' take on this? Thanks, Mike:)
deerslayer79
Your only going to need that one shot,I have the Ultra slug hunter in 12ga and it is very lethal. They can be finicky though so find a load it likes and stick with it.Mine loves the 2 3/4in lightfield hybred EXP's. matq2gs
I am going to get one after christmas. I told my kids to just get me a gift certificate to the local sporting goods. I know some guys that have them and the only thing you have to do is keep the barrel bushed out. After every 5 or so shots they start to get eractic from the plastic that builds up in the rifling. They all love them. I think I'm going to go with a 20 ga. I have a 12 ga 870 with rifled barrel. Here they are $225 for the walnut/blued and $275 for the laminated stock w/o scope in the ultra slugger.
dartonman
Sounds like your mind is made up.....I just bought the complete package here on the forums from Ohiobucks...with a scope, the ultra slugger in 12 guage....I am already aware that it is a heavy gun, but since several forum members shoot the same gun, and the two that shot Ohiobucks slug gun nailed bullseyes .Im really, really pumped about getting it this next week, and completely sighted in with a 2.5x7 power scope for 250.00 shipped, I think Im gonna be stoked about blazing some Illinois whitetails...I have never in my 39 years owned a slug gun meant for deer hunting till now........and I was told it loves the Lightfield EXP's in 2 3/4 as well......and smokes the target out to 125 with no regrets., Best of all the luck in the world, and have a Merry Christmas buddy...keep us posted on your new deer slayer....................al
matq2gs
Went in to the local sporting goods store and put a H & R ultra slugger 20 ga. on layaway (12/26)I have been on the net and got a slug comparison chart off the NRA web. Excellent info to have.Hope to have it by mid Jan as I get my bonus from work after the first of the year. Hope to have it in time to hunt with the last couple of weeks of the whitetail season. It's hard to believe that the season has come and gone so fast. Happy New Year to everyone.
matq2gs
Going to pick up my gun tonight. Then go home and put my scope on it. I am hoping to sight it in on Sunday. The weather is calling for windy with a chill factor in the single digits.Hopefully the wind won't blow that's the only thing I am worried about. johnf
After the season closes send the gun into the factory and have them drop the trigger weight. They'll do it free and ship it back at no cost. You'll be suprised how much your groups will shrink with a 3lb pull.
matq2gs
I picked it up on 1/18 and got it sighted in on 1/21. I will be hunting with it on 1/26. It is sweet. I am using Hornady SST slugs in it . I sighted it in 2.5" high at 50 yards according to the box and I am dead on at 150 yards. I shot 2" group at 50 yards. That was 4 shots and cold as h***.
