Tominator
Anyone ever chrono a 250 grain T/C Shockwave with 100 grains of Pyrodex out of their Encore? If so, can you give me an estimate as to the muzzle velocity? Thanks. I knew I'd go way overboard as soon as Ohiobucks got me into this Muzzleloader thing. wtnhunt
Never chrono'd one Chris, but have some data in a manual with different loads and bullets. Think the shockwave may be in there. Would be more than happy to look for you if you want the data.

I was reading up on wind drift of a big bullet like the .50 cal and ran across this ballistics calculator: http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx I imagine muzzle velocity is pretty important when figuring wind drift. I have no idea as to the sectional density or ballistic coefficient either. I have the 250 gr. powerbelts, and the Hornady 44-240 HP/XTP bullets too. wtnhunt
and the Hornady 44-240 HP/XTP bullets too. I was wrong Chris, no data in the manual for the shockwaves, but there is for the 240 grain xtp sabots. Muzzle energy with 100 grain charge of pyro should be around 1868 ft lbs. and muzzle velocity should be around 1860 fps. Maybe Charlie has chrono'd similar loads. Would tend to think the 10 grain difference in bullet weight for the shockwave is not going to make all that much difference. I do see a 250 grain mag express that the manual is giving data for with a muzzle energy of 1898 ft lbs energy and 1849 feet per second at the muzzle, so not a real significant difference there. I would imagine that barrel length will also be somewhat of a factor too, but this general info should fit your "ball park".
billkay
250 grain Poly Tip Barnes and 2-777 pellets gets about 1677fps and 1562lbs @ muzzle, 1382fps and 1061lbs @ 100yrds, and 1159fps and 746lbs @ 200yrds. This is Knight/Barnes data.
tped
Not what you are looking for but my load in my Encore is Barnes 250 grain expander in front of 120 grains of loose 777 - Very consistent at 2216 fps. I was very surprised as my low was only 2215 and high was 2217. I can't reload metallic rifle cartridges and get that consistency of velocity. I also use standard Windhester 209 primers.
