Happy Thanksgiving indeed!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect going out into the stand today. I've only been home from college since Tuesday, so I knew that I wouldn't have too much time to hunt, granted that I'm leaving Sunday. Plus, I had tons of homework to do, and on top of that, I'm really, really sick. However, I wasn't going to let that stop me from hunting. Since not many people at college believe that yes, I actually DO hunt, I knew I had some serious shooting to do!

After dinner this afternoon, I sighted in my rifle and made sure it was going to get the job done. Dead on. With that in mind, I dressed, got my stuff together, and headed off on the 4-wheeler back to my stand. After I baited the food plot and parked the 4-wheeler, I climbed up there, settled in, cracked open a can of pop, and waited.

Pretty soon, I started seeing deer moving, but nothing of great importance. Over the radio, I heard my aunt say that she had a buck walk behind her and she wasn't able to get a shot off because it walked behind her. I figured it might come to me since we hunt in pretty close proximity, and sure enough, about half an hour later, I saw a doe come running out of the woods behind me and into the clearing in front of me.

I knew that she had to be being chased so I looked behind me. It was getting dark, but I could faintly make out the outline of horns. I watched and waited, and pretty soon, he stepped out from behind the trees, put his head up, and I knew right there that I had found my buck. He was taking his sweet time getting out of the woods, so it gave me time to get positioned and get my gun ready.

I was all set, and I watched as he walked down the hillside, through the ravine, and he almost made it to the clearing, but me and my rifle kind of stopped that from happening :) I looked through the scope, waited for him to stop, and squeezed the trigger.

He went down like a box of rocks!!! He buckled on the spot, legs collapsed underneath him. I ended up shooting him in the neck, which I think happened because I had to shoot at an awkward angle, so my sight might have been a little off. Regardless, I got him! Twenty yards, if that! I am very thrilled and now I will be able to kick back and enjoy the rest of break. Besides, now I've got bragging rights :D
