007hunter
I went out this morning to sight in a new gun and I got a problem. For some reason it shoots 2 ft low (yes thats feet!!) at 50 yds. I have the scope adjusted to as high as it goes. So my question is it the scope? The gun? I'm tending to think its the scope as its just a cheap tasco. I wasn't planning on sighting it in until spring when I can afford a good scope but due to circumstances I need it for this coming monday. The first shot I took hit 15 ft in front of the target. I couldn't believe it!! Also could it be the mounts? P.S. All screws are tight on the scope/mount.
Guest bowhunter56
get a bore sight tool if you can, check all the screws, mounts, rings, gun to stock screws, and yes you need a bettet scope some day..
Strut10
Sounds like you may have different height rings. If you have a medium on the front and a low on the back, for example, you might end up with the results you describe.
popgun
Not knowing what brand of rifle this is mounted to, I'd still guess that it is the scope mounts. Many rifles like Savage, and Stevens use a thicker mount or taller rings in the front than they use on the rear position. This can cause a real difference and can damage your scope if it is clamped in too tight, because it is mounted on a slant instead of parallel with the barrel. What kind of rifle are you mounting this scope to? Even a cheap Tasco scope is not usually that far off from the factory settings. ....popgun
007hunter
The gun is a Savage Model 110. So for example, if the front is higher than the back, would this cause that kind or drop? Or would it cause it to hit really high?
LifeNRA
if the front is higher than the back, would this cause that kind or drop? Or would it cause it to hit really high? Most definitely! Better get to a good gun shop ASAP!!! Change them bases and get it bore sighted!!!
007hunter
Leupold STD mounting system is on the way...hopefully that fixes the problem
snapper
Hope that works for ya! My uncle bought a Simmons scope for a Howa .223 and couldn't get it sighted in. Ran out of adjustment in elvation. He returned the scope to the factory...they sent a new scope. The new scope ran out of adjustment left and right...height was ok...but couldn't get it on left and right. I finally talked him into a Nikon buckmasters and has had a problem since. Dubie
Sometimes you need to put a little spacer under your scope mounts. Not ideal, but nessicary on occasion if you can't get your rings even. Also, last time I saw someone with this proplem in the gravel pit, I looked at his rifle and he had his scope mounted sideways...Not saying this is your proplem, just a little humor for you guys.
