Guest chris.bay
I didn't see a way to do poll's.Was kinda curious as to whether or not people on here use some kinda blind. or do you just sit in a chair or plop down underneath a tree. wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Primarily hunt ladder stands myself, but we do have a few elevated blinds including one 6X6 box blind. Do have one ladder stand overlooking my back field that is a blind of sorts that is great for rifle as it has a rail around the front, canvas draped from it. The rail makes taking those long shots that much more steady. Usually take the kids to the blinds, and the wife hunts them quite a bit. I prefer ladder stands in the woods really, like getting close when I can. I do hunt a climber too, mainly with the bow.
rhine16
If i'm rifle hunting, I usually just sit up against a tree unless i'm in an area where i need some elevation. If i'm bow hunting, i will occasionally hunt in a blind, but usually in my climber.
Guest Andrea
Welcome!! I hunt from a ladder stand, a climber and a blind. The blind is primarily for taking kids with you.....and because in this area the deer are easily spooked. My ladder stand is a 2-man stand that is my favorite spot. And my climber is for public land. bluedog
90% of the time I just "plop" down on the ground against a tree. I do take some time to choose a tree that keeps me in the shadows. If there is some brush in front of me or dead limbs around, so much the better, but I rarely go to the effort (during the season) to really build a blind. Snugging myself up against a huge downed tree is a favorite too. It's nice to be mobile and be able to quickly move if needed. Take this for what it is worth as I've only been hunting a short time and I've only shot three deer. All my shots have been under 60 yards and none of the deer knew I was there. I pay attention to the wind and regularly see deer in the 15-30 yard range that don't seem to know or care that I am there. This is on private land that gets a fair amount of hunting pressure. Hunted an early public land antlerless muzzleloader hunt this past October. Had a 6 point stay 15-20y in front of me for 20 minutes before wandering off. Had a HUGE 10 point putzing around in front of me at 20-30 yards for about 5-10 minutes before wandering off. Maybe it's just that the woods around here kind of lend themselves to hunting from the ground. I'm sure it wouldn't work everywhere. I should add that I only hunt shotgun and muzzleloader season. I hope to get into bowhunting at some point and for that I will surely be in a tree.
Guest Tatonka
I stay on the ground 99% of the time these days.... I used to bowhunt out of tree stands, but found it was too restricting (too many deer were passing out of bow range). So, I got down out of the trees. When I'm on the ground I am more mobile, obvisously, and can move if I need to. I still set up along trails (I just use the natural cover....branches, weeds, etc.) but if I see a buck in the distance I don't have to just sit there and watch it. Texan_Til_I_Die
The terrain I hunt in West Texas is mostly low brush with rolling hills and the occasional deeper canyon with larger trees in the bottom. I have a mixture of about 7 or 8 free standing tripods, a half dozen or so ladder stands, a couple of popups and a couple of box blinds. I also do a lot of spot and stalk. Guest mims
I hunt from all types. I like to have a setup for changing conditions(wind mainly). I hunt a home made blind(pallets and limbs) here I have no trees to work with, a pop up blind that I move some and ladder stands that are set up and left all season. I like the pop up blind the least because you are enclosed and not out in the woods
