The deer season for me in 2007 has been one of paitence. And the old saying is true. "Good things come to those who wait."

Friday 11-23 the day after Thanksgiving I went hunting about 4pm. Got up in my stand & hadn't seen anything for an hour. I did in fact see several turkey buzzards gliding over head the entire afternoon. Alot of things started running through my head. Rifle season started here Sept 1st I've passed on a few bucks I know other hunters would have shot. A handsome immature 8 who's just not ready & another tall racked big necked 6 pointer who will be a dandy buck next season if he survives. I was thinking to myself should I have shot those deer. Here it is Nov 23rd & I haven't pulled the trigger once since Sept.

Well about 20 minutes before legal time was over 7 does entered the field. My girlfriend was sitting on the other side of the woods & radioed to me that another deer was following the does but she couldn't make out what it was. Sure enough about 10 minutes before legal time was over this big boy showed up at 135 yards away behind the does & started to walk in the opposite direction. I blew on my grunt tube & he started to walk back in my direction from my right to left. I raised my 270 & put the crosshairs right on his shoulder. With his nose to the ground he wouldn't stop walking & he was just 80 yards away. I had to make 3 or 4 grunts with my mouth & finally the 4th time he stopped dead in his tracks & looked in my direction. My heart pounding I squeeze off a shot. He took off, I watched to where he ran then sat & waited about 20 minutes. By this time it was pitch dark. I found him laying at the edge of the woods & come to find out he's an 11 point that weighed 193lbs. :D 270 Winchester AccuBonds did the trick.
