rhine16
First of all, if you are looking for pictures of a big buck this is not the post to find it in , as there are merely 5 inches of bone in these two pictures . However, if you do want to hear a couple first kill stories then you might want to read it. The first hunt was my girlfriends. One of my goals has been to get her to hunt. Last season she went with me a few times, but didnt want to hunt. This summer she told me she wanted to try it. I was very suprised. I told her that she was gonna have to do a little more than just go a few times and shoot if she wanted to. So, i guess the start of her season was when she went to plant food plots with me. She also went with me bowhunting a few times during the season. I took her to shoot .22's one evening during October. She shot very well to have not ever shot a gun with a scope. I also took her with me when i made sure my gun was sighted in. She shot 2 times at 100 and shot pretty well. I picked her up from her grandparents after thanksgiving dinner last thursday. We went back out to my grandparents, got dressed and headed to the woods. We sat for awhile without seeing anything. I wasnt too optimistic about the evening because of the full moon. However, at about 4:40 i caught movement coming from the setout pines and then a fawn walked out, followed by it's brother/sister, then it's mama. The doe saw us not long after she started feeding(we were just sitting against a tree on edge of plot with no mask). She was curious as to what we were, and walked straight at us. As she was closing the distance, I asked Krista if she wanted to shoot her(we were just planning on bucks). She said kinda, so i decided we would take this opportunity. I told her to take the safety off and i would tell her when to get the gun up. The doe stopped at 20 yards perfectly broadside, but she was staring at us. Finally she turned her head to look back at her fawns. Krista got the gun up and i told her to take it when she was ready. When she shot, the deer whirled and headed into the setout pines(3yrs old). We found a blood trail an hour after we started looking. We knew it wasnt a good hit. We followed it for about 150 yards when it ran out. My dad told me to just ride up and down the rows and look. Krista and i did that for two more hours, but seeing that it is a 26acre field, it was kinda tough. And also it was 36 and the wind was killing me:(. I returned on Friday morn with my grandad and uncle. My grandad rode the 4 wheeler up and down rows for 2 hours while my uncle and i walked rows. They finally gave up, but i couldnt yet. They gave me the 4 wheeler and headed to the truck. I took off on it and just started flying up and down every other row looking. I found it 15 minutes later 10 rows from where we had stopped. I was so glad to find it. She got off work(kinda easy since she works for her mom;)) and came to take pictures. I was so glad i found it cause she was really down about it. Now for the second story . The second hunt was with my 6 year old brother, Jon Reuben. Yes 6 is young, but this kid has been accompanying me and my dad to the woods since he could walk. He has been wanting to try for a couple years, so we let him try shooting this year. He looked very good on the targets with a .22, so we had to let him go. Friday evening was his 8th hunt of the season since it had been opened 2 weeks ago, and his 4th with me. Here is a pic i took of him as we were walking in: We went to a food plot and he had to sit in my lap since we only had room for one chair. He had been complaining of being sleepy all afternoon, and he ended up falling asleep on me. About an hour after he fell asleep three does came out. I woke him up and he got positioned to shoot. About 5 minutes we heard a deer running and i told ru to be watching cause i knew the deer was out there, but i couldnt see it. Seconds later, he said it's a spike Rhine. So we got his gun up and ready. He ran the doe back in the woods and then chased the fawns toward us. He stoppedd 15 yards from us. I cocked the hammer for ru and he tried to get on him. For some reason, he could not find the deer in the scope. After a stand off, the spike blew and took off. I figured our hunt was over, but i was wrong. 20 minutes later a spike showed up(not sure if it was same or different one). Ru stood up and tried it again. Shot was at 60 yards. Deer took of running, but i knew he was hit. We found good lung blood at the spot of the shot. The deer didnt run 30 yards. Ru was pumped! Sorry for such a long post. Congratulations Jon Reuben and Krista!

rhine16
Thanks for the comments guys! I can definitely tell you that i had just as much fun on both of these hunts as i would if i had shot a booner! Won't get to guide anymore first kills until i have kids i dont reckon, but i'm sure i'll have plenty of more hunts with these two. Have already taken Krista two more times in the 5 days since those two kills.
