My first deer!

Hi all, I am a newbie! Been avidly deer hunting for the past several years, and finally on 11/17/2007 had a great clear shot at a Buck. He was standing slightly uphill (behind me) less than 20 yards from where I was hunting with my 9 yr old son (whom had fell asleep and was snoring). So I turned and took a shot. I waited a few moments and walked up the hill to check for blood, which I never found, even though with his movement I felt pretty confident that I had at least hit me. My husband, myself and 2 friends all combed the area looking for any sign that I had indeed hit him to no avail. So my husband went back to the scene on the next morning and still no sign. The deer I had saw and shot at had some type of injury before I fired because he appeared to already be limping in his front end. My husband was Duck hunting on 11/24/2007 and found my Buck, well obviously the coyotes had found him as well so all that was salvageable was his antlers. How do I clean them up in order to put them on a plaque? I realize I can wait for them to rot, but yuck:eek:! I will try to figure this picture thing out. He was a non-typical with 9 points one of the tines was broken. He had a 16 1/2 in spread.

Just take a knife, and cut all the skin and fleshy bits off the skull plate. Then I'll take a wire brush, scrape it off under hot tap water. Pay special attention under the burs, as little fleshy bits can get stuck up under there. Let it air dry a little while, drill a couple holes in the skull plate, and screw it to your plaque. You can then make a cover of what ever material you like, if you wish, and stuff it with some cotton.

Nice set of antlers. Congradulations.
