Sighting in.....

Got my scope on my black diamond set about an inch high at 100 Clay. My furthest shot on a deer was between 130 and 140 yards back earlier on this season, and I held dead on, hit where I was aiming. I have never shot at atarget at 200 so I am not sure, but here is some data from a manual for you.

Copied this from this thread http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64539

listen im not trying to be a know it all or be mean to anyone ,but realy quit worrying about takeing 200 yard shots.dont go by data someone tells you smoke poles are not rifles, they dont act the same.it takes alot of pratice to be able to hit at long range with any gun.i work on guns and ive seen it over and over again.my gun wont shoot right.and 9 times out of ten its something they do not the gun.useing differant loads, bullits.powder, allmake dramatic changes in how a gun shoots.just the way you hold it will make it shoot alittle differant.canting it one way or anouther.the best way is shoot it ,,,alot, know it like a friend..i belive none should take a shot like that unless they work on it ,,not just on someones say so

Wait a minute....I dont think someone is upset with the way their gun shoots.

The simple question was

what yardage are you zeroing your scope at ?? Where is your point of impact at 100, 150 and say 200 yards ??

Forgot to mention that I am shooting 240 grain xtp mags and using 120 grains of loose pyro.

Like mentioned above, your guns performance will vary from what is here, but you can get a general idea from data or what others are setting up with and that will help you have a better idea what you are dealing with at the range.

i wasnt trying to say his gun wouldnt shoot right,,,,just that what you and i would use for loads and such might not work in his gun. you have to put time in at the range to find out what works best in your own gun..you cant realy go by retailers susjestions either.some smoke poles like one round but not the other.and it is my outlook that we owe it to the game we hunt to know what our guns can and canot do.its not the right thing to do just to load up and go out and start takeing 200 yard shot at game because someone said it works in thier gun.just because its done on tv and a pro takes a 200 yard shot at deer doesnt mean everyone is capable of makeing those kinds of shots.i admit someone could get lucky and make a shot like that,,but you get good by practiceing and knowing your firearm.its the worst thing in the world comeing up on a nice buck thats been gutshot and not found because someone didnt hit it right

VTGRIZZ2006,

You sure are making alot of assumptions from my simple questions......how about just answer the questions, and I'll take it from there. I spend plenty of time at the range, and know my own capabilities with each weapon, whether it be bow or gun.........I just wanted to get a feel for what everybody else's set-ups were, and how they performed....nothing less, nothing more.
