Bobby Knight???

the article that you have linked looks like it was written by somebody with an axe to grind. Anti-hunting and definately anit-Bob Knight.

The video really doesn't show anything, just good for audio. In my opinion, it doesn't prove anything. Sounds like a couple of hotheads argueing, no telling which one is right. The one guy may just be looking for his 15 minutes in the lime light.

Didn't really like the way BK through his hunting buddy under the bus and blamed him though.

"Knight and a friend apparently were hunting doves, the symbols of peace" Oh yeah, someone has an axe to grind.

I don't agree that this is living up to his reputation. He was arguing with a nut who was looking for 15 minutes of fame. If there were really pellets in the pool then why didn't he call the police. Why? Because there were no pellets in the pool. I see a case of hunter harassment. "You big celebrity" Now who wants to pay the most for my video.

Yeah, I noticed that too, but was the first article I found that came up when I searched the topic. Guess I could have looked for a better article. The rest of the article did seem like Knight pretty well made a total jerk of himself with his comments, which I guess is not at all surprising. The report I had heard on the radio said Knight was too close to this other property owners home though, which is a game violation in many places.

First of all, the only reason this is a story is the fact that the national media, as well as the general public know Knight's history and his established temper....and guess what, so did the moron behind the camera.

A few pellets probably hit this hillbilly's house and right away he runs and grabs a camera and starts antagonizing Knight trying to get a reaction out of him so he can then sue.

Then, wouldn't you know it, Knight doesn't fall for the guys BS so he releases the film to the national media...big surprise.

I'm sure if the guy would have approached Knight and ask that they not shoot in the direction of his house, this situation would have never escaladed like it did. But instead, the guy charges up with a video camera and starts making waves and ranting frantically. "It's on film" "this is on film" "you keep pointing the gun at me" "don't point the gun at me." From what I could see, nobody was pointing a gun at the DB. If I was in Knight's shoes, I would have been pissed too.

When you're a public figure and known for your temper, you'll be a target. It's unfortunate, but the fact this is such a major story, shows you why people do dumb stuff these days.

ROFLMBO, you are kidding right Eric. We are talking about the same Bobby Knight that goes ballistic over silly stuff right? Honestly, I think the guy had a lot of nerve approaching Knight whether he intended to sue or whatever.

Well said Muggs!!

The fact that the police are not even concidering charges speaks volumes. Billybob Redneck was trying to bait Bob into law suit or a big paycheck from the video.

The funny thing is that none of these idiots were there so they really have no clue as to what went on. Video taping the confrontation. That's got "I want some money" written all over it. I couldn't resist and sent Greg from the Sun Times a letter (See below)...

Greg, I honestly hope that you aren't one of those dumb liberals that possesses no common sense whatsoever but you are a member of the media so that changes things a bit. One can clearly see from the video that his gun isn't pointed towards the guy and yet the man keeps telling him to turn it away from him. So I take it that you were actually there and saw what happened...right?? Obviously not and I'm just making a point with that sarcastic remark. Who's to say that his hunting partner or partners weren't the ones that were shooting towards the houses?? I'm not saying I condone what make have occurred as there are rules about hunting with so many feet of structures and most hunters follow the rules. I'm one of those hillbilly hunters as you like to put it, college educated, working in the IT field, and I resent the tone used when in reference to hunters. We as a group come from all walks of life and unlike most "City-its" as I call them who have lost all touch with the natural world and the cycle of life, we partake in the hunting of animals for food. The only difference between us is that most prefer to let someone else do their killing for them and we gather our own meat. I've had pellets hit me before when hunting pheasants and I just make sure I wear eye protection in case it happens. No big deal there. It's probably a good thing that I don't know you as I'd knock you on your tail for this stupid article. Get a clue...

About 45 seconds in to the clip:

Early in the video, Simpson says, "I asked you nicely to move down. You're too close to my house."

Knight later says: "You didn't ask us to move down. You swore and cussed ... you were swearing and cussing and yelling. I don't need that. If you ask us politely, I'll be glad to do it."

He was asking there, heard no swearing, from what I could see of the video could not tell in the right side corner exacly where the gun was at before he put it on or in the truck. Who knows what was or was not edited.

This is a better article http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/112907dnspoknight.4acb07d7.html

Not sure about this current deal, but this is what happened a couple years ago in Wisconsin: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/10/21/archive/main67539.shtml

Bobby shot a buddy while grouse hunting, didn't report it, and didn't have a license because "he thought he didn't need one while hunting private property." To me, this shows he's as big a jerk in real life as he portrays on tv.

Looking at the video, I can see it both ways. I'm not a big Knight fan, I do think he has some anger management problems, but sounds like the guy had a legitimate beef. Who knows. Pellets can fly a long way. I've been peppered before, and it's a little unnerving for sure. On the other hand, if that guy knew Knight was out there I could see him looking for an easy payday, who knows?

What's more surprising is why would Knight put himself in that position? His arrogance gets him in trouble more than anything IMHO.

Guest COACH J.

I saw the video on sportscenter and I thought it was really funny. Knight was just like get outa here we dont need you here..It was funny. Should have figured people would use this to attack coach knight! He is a great coach and one of the best of all time and I dont think anyone here has the right to say he is a bad person unless you personally know him.

First off, I'm not sure that anyone here has blatantly called him a "bad person". Comments about his history of making less-than-ideal choices on how to behave have been made here based upon factual data over his years in the public eye.

So then, based upon what you wrote above, it would also go that no one has "the right" to say positive things about him unless he/she personally knows him? That's more of a rhetorical question, by the way. . . .

Nope, dont think anyone called the man a bad person either, but no doubt he does not handle his anger issues well in public.

Well, would you prefer pompous jerk over bad person? I think I've seen his act on TV plenty enough to have reached that conclusion. I think he's a great basketball mind and makes sure his players graduate college, not just play b-ball. :)

I also think Waddell, Jordan and Blanton are nice guys and have never met them ;)

From what he did 40 miles from where I live in the grouse deal a few years back, I conclude he's a poacher for not buying a small game license; I think he figures he's above the law for not reporting shooting someone in a hunting accident. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/10/21/archive/main67539.shtml

Knight has blown up at more than just the media. He has thrown his tantrums and antics directed at his own players and at refs, very unsportsmanlike in my opinion. Very poor example for anyone to follow.
I certainly would never throw a chair across the court a grab one of my players by the neck but I wont let a few things like that change my opinion of a man that teaches the character and winning attitude along with everything else good he has done for basketball.
