Well, I think I'm done with helping people out for a while...

Just this afternoon, I come across a guy in the ditch with his jeep, stuck pretty good. I pulled over, offered to tug him out. I hook up my own tow strap to my hitch and his, get down nice and low on the sholder so I could bite in and get some traction, and pulled him out. In the process, I had gotten myself a little stuck. Nothing a little rocking couldn't fix, but I figured we were hooked up anyway, a little tug would be easier. That when I look in my mirrior, to see the guy I just pulled out load MY two strap into HIS jeep, jump in and drive away...

You have got to be kiddin me? The nerve of some people!!!!

Reminds me of a time I poulled out a S 10. I pulled this guy 4-5 times, and everytime he proceeded to try and go back through the same hole. After the 5th time, I just hammered on it, bounced him off a couple of trees. Ticked me off when he kept trying to go back through there and gettin stuck

Holy cow, I guess he figured he needed them worse than you. It will come back to him.

Sorry but I just couldn't hold back the laughter. :D That is just so ignorant, it's laughable.

Don't worry about that guy, and don't let him discourage you from being a good Samaritan. What goes around, comes around, and I'm sure he'll get his reward. :D

I agree, don't be discouraged. The next time you see someone in a ditch they may really need you.

Many, many years ago I was in a hurry to go goose hunting and I came across a car in the ditch on an isolated road. The roads were terribly iced over from freezing rain. I stopped and peeked into the window. There was a woman with her baby and they were stranded. I pulled her out and went on my way. She offered me money but I declined. Later that week my Dad gave me a pat on the back. Seems as though she took down my license plate without my knowing and contacted my Dad to tell him what I did. Making my dad proud was my reward.

Were you in New Jersey?

It's really difficult around here to keep up my good sumaritan nature. That guy is a dirtbag, but like what has been said, don't be discouraged. Live with the knowledge that you did your part, and understand that those who don't do theirs, pay their dues at some point. I am perfectly comfortable with the knowledge that an individual of that caliber will certainly come across someone that will take them down a notch, or 12. Granted, you did lose what was probably an expensive set of tow straps, and for that I am sorry. That sucks. What an odd thing to happen.

Sad that there are those out there in the world like that, but would not let one piece of garbage like that stop you from helping out someone else who needs it. At least you did not tear up anything on your own vehicle in the process. Funny sometimes how things have a way of coming around.

Well, if I got his plate #, I wouldn't press charges. I'd just drop off an invoice for the tow straps he stole, as well as a $60 for the towing services I gave him...That would get my message across well enough.

And I'd do the same thing over again. I always stop, because I know what its like to be stranded somewhere, watching everyone drive by and no one will stop for you.
