Sad thing that shouldn't have happened

“It appears at this point, it was someone who heard a noise, saw movement and took a shot,” said Parker. “The noise and movement turned out to be another hunter.”........“I have to decide whether criminal charges are warranted or if there will be charges from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC),” said Parker. “If you ever take the hunter training safety course, there is a whole segment on when to shoot and not to shoot and that would seem to violate those tenents.”

Parker said of the scene, “It was overgrown ... Visibility was very poor.”

The shooter should face manslaughter at minimum. NO EXCUSE:(:(

Definitly a sad accident. Most definitly preventable. The sad thing is, is the fact that this just gives the anti's another thing to gripe about cause of someones un-ethical move in the deer woods. Very sad though exspecially cause it shouldn't have even happened.

I for one, do not call that an accident , it was just plain out stupid and careless ------ the guy should be charged with man slaughter

I don't understand how a person can be so careless. How can you shoot at something that is standing 6ft tall and think it's a deer. This is definately a person that should have never entered the deer woods. This person is definately not a responsible hunter. He should have identified his target. Put him on trial. Prayers for the family. Horrible accident. Never should have happened.

Was the shot hunter wearing orange?

The article said it was not told if the hunter was wearing orange or not. That should not matter though.

what shall we do with him???:mad:

My honest opinion is make an example of these who do not identify their targets prior to shooting. Really feel like in these cases the shooter should at the very minimum face manslaughter charges. Some should probably face murder charges. If the law enforcement agencies dealing with these issues would punish these shooters in a more fitting manner, think the numbers would drop significantly.

I agree 150%

Heck, you could dress up like a buck and hunt with me, and know you were safe. There really is no excuse...none... for negligence like that.:(

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the orange but I don't think it would have mattered in this case.

When I got my doe Sunday and called Andy, we were talking back and forth on the radio so he could find me. I told him about where I was - about 150 yards from the stand and 150 - 200 yards below the gravel pit. I'm standing there by the deer, he calls me on the radio andsays "I'm inthat area but don't see you" I look up ahead and there he is, maybe 25 yards away in a red shirt, and can't even see me in my orange vest. It was turning dusk and this was heavy hemlocks.

Sad, sad mistake this guy did. I'll try to find out what happens with him and let you all know.

This is really sad, and there's no excuse. Just this evening when I was helping my neighbor milking cows, we were talking about deer hunting and how stupid alot of people are for shooting at movement, or noise without seeing what they're shooting at or what's beyond it, or where their shot might go. He told me about his old barber in Ohio, whose son and his best friend were hunting together, and his best friend saw movement in the brush and shot him right in the heart. Killed him. Whatever happened to make sure of your target and what's beyond it??? Is is a foreign concept anymore???

Unfortunately it is more common, there has been at least 7 cases here in Minnesota this year like this which is unfortunate. I just read the other day where a guy was dressed in blaze orange with a vest and hat on and he was shot by another hunter who heard a noise and thought it was a squirrel.
