centralsaskhunter
Ok, I have a 1997 Polaris 500 Indy SKS. Dad got a 2005 800 classic-but it is hands off to me, so he said what I should do is fix mine up to my standards. What I would like for this sled to do by the time I am done with it is to give it a little more power (well, as much as possible, really), fix up the exhaust to make it sound *beautiful*, put on a new track, put on a new graphic/decal kit, lift the suspension and put on a 1.5" Camoplast track on it. Has anyone redone a sled like this? How can I do this with a limited budget? Any specific brand names that have worked exceptionally well for you? I am planning on doing the work on my own, or with a friend, which is a mechanic, and not just a backyardigan. I do some racing on a track that a few local friends make every year. Currently I have it in the shop and I am getting a new clutch put into it. And Ideas/advice for upgrades? Here is what it looks like right now, and yes, that is me in the pic. The only reason I was stick is because the little brother was on the back and I didn't want to have him bucked off, haha. Thanks
Guest swmnk9training
Are you looking to put the same type of track on or are you looking to add studs or length?
centralsaskhunter
I want to put in something like the Ripsaw or the Hacksaw but studded. I need a track with a minimum of 1.5" lugs/paddles or whatever you would care to call them. The only problem is, I have never seen these tracks studded before and I do not know if you can do it yourself and whatnot.
craig mack
My buddy had the exact same sled. Its a very nice dependable sled. It lacks power, so if you want to add power you should put a pipe, have it jetted, and put a clutch kit in it. You can lighten it up by replaceing the metal skis with plastic ones. I dont know what your budget is but all this will cost alot of money. If you stay on the trail and out of the powder you should be fine with it stock. Good luck
centralsaskhunter
The biggest factor right now is power. I need more power, or I will outgrow the machine and I will spend a bunch more on a newer, bigger one, so I have probabally 2-3 thousand I will be able to put into this sled. How much do you think it would cost to have it jetted, put in a pipe and a clutch kit, just for those, not the labor putting it in.
craig mack
Not sure but you could probably get it done for that budget.
