Probibly not going to get a lot of answers. There are way too many variables.

Rimfire

What are you using it for?

What's the land like that you hunt?

Is ammo price a factor?

Centerfire

Same as rim fire. +

Is recoil a factor?

Will you be hunting different size game ie Prarie dogs-moose.

What is the range you would hunt?

What do you already have?

ML

50 cal

Shotgun 12Ga.

Slug or shot?

Turkey or upland?

Duck or squirel?

Best is all a matter of a persons opinion, therefore you will have a pretty broad range of answers.

Generally speaking an effective deer rifle, any of those mentioned will work. What will be the best for you will depend, is ammo availablity and price a factor, is recoil a factor, is veratility on other game a consideration or factor? Personally I deer hunt with a .270, shoots flat, puts deer down effectively and to me has very light recoil, some argue that a 30-06 is better and still some argue they prefer a .308. My wife shoots a .243, and has killed a couple deer with it and has yet to have a track job with that rifle. Which is best, depends on who is using it, but all will effectively kill a deer.

Far as ml'ers go, the most common is going to be a .50, but some use .45's and some use .54's, which is best is again all a matter of preference, but would venture to say that most will tell you they use a .50.

Shotgunning, for turkeys I use a 12, but it is legal here to use anything 28 gauge and larger. Guess a 20 gauge would work fine with the right load too.
