Why all the blood?

I love seeing all the deer harvest pictures on the forums. I don't judge the size of antlers or weather it's a buck or a doe. Every deer is a trophy. However, I do not like seeing pools of blood all over the photos. I have seen some deer with blood all over the face, body, antlers and the deer is laying in a pool of blood or in a pickup truck with blood smeared from end to end. This not only is unappealing but also shows no respect for the deer, our sport and the hunting community. Most non-hunters don't like to see all the blood and will only make them anti hunters. You never see blood in magazines, or in the videos of ethical hunting shows like Realtree. I'm not saying you have to clean up every spot. Blood is a byproduct of success. But we don't need to look like outtakes from Reservoir Dogs.

wow dude that's pretty lame that you're complaining about blood i usually dont get on people on here but this is one of them post that really heats me up. what's the big deal really. if you dont like it dont look. what are you suppose to do run the deer and your truck through the wash before you snap a few pictures. This is the same kind of stuff that goes on with "inappropriate" stuff on tv the way i see it if you dont like what you see dont look at it.

OK.......We all respect your point of view and many of us understand where u are coming from...but instead of calling pics people may take inappropriate why not put up a post with suggestions on taking better pics or offer up suggestions to people....but u have to remember people who are meat hunting, like my self and many of my friends the trophy is second to the value of the meat..so often pics are the last thing on our minds...also i'm pretty sure none of us have the money that shows liike realtree or hunting mags have, i know i dont i'm a full time college student and i have a full time job, so i'm more focused on getting my meat cut and into the cooler than i am on pics...but just think about peoples situation before jumping the gun....and welcome to the forums.

p.s. i dont think anti/non-hunters are surfing this sight to see pics of dead deer.

p.p.s Our sport is inharentaly bloody and most of us realize that and understand it

good point maybe suggestions would have been a better approach.:)

actually it wasn't but a few weeks ago that some anti hunter was on here causing a scene of course he/she got banned prety quick. Not because they was an anti-hunter but because of the comments he/she was making.:)

Ohh well you guys forgot that deer dont have blood. They are filled with air and when you shoot them they deflate. If you shoot a deer it is going to bleed. Blood is part of the sport.

I understand what you mean about the blood tho. Some people might find that repulsive or what not but all you have to do is give some suggestions like others have said. Not go and say that they are disrespecting the animal itself, or the sport of hunting.

Being you are a new member, you are probably not aware that this topic has come up in here several times before. There have been suggestions here for taking better field pics in the past, and it is entirely up to the individual to chose how they want to take and share their pics. Personally I do not agree with what you say in regard to disrespecting the animal by taking pics that may have blood or may not be as nice as you see in mags.

As far as the raw photos, sometimes in the excitement of hunting some of us myself included really dont think so much about that aspect and sometimes we may not get the best opportunities to get great field photos. I mean to me after the kill there are things that need done, the pictures for sharing with fellow hunters are something we chose to do and how we do that should not be dictated by someone who thinks it may be offensive to some group or another. I get the argument about the non hunters, but I got to say, I have shared pics with people and had non hunters also look at the pics and some were not really all that happy about seeing a dead animal PERIOD. The blood played no part or factor as there was not any in those particular pics, they plain said to have been disgusted by the sight of the beautiful animal having been killed and there lifeless. That is certainly their right to feel that way, and under those circumstances we probably are best off to learn from them and not offer to show those types of people our pics at all. If by chance a non hunter is here and sees something they dont like, nobody is twisting their arm to make them continue to look, they have the option of leaving just like they have the option of staying and continuing to look.

Safe to say most of us here want to share our pics with our friends and with other hunters, if the blood bothers them in your pics and you want to clean them up that is totally your choice, if you rush or simply dont think about it, I personally have no problem with it, I still enjoy looking at the pics, sometimes the tongue hanging out or a little blood from the exit side just makes it that much more real.

It's just your opinion. Doesn't make it right or wrong, but that's all it is. By the way, how's the weather up on your high horse?

Got a recommendation for you: When you first join a forum, try to not not tell others they don't respect deer based on your opinion of how pictures should be taken.

Sorry....talking down at others for this little stuff chaps my hiney. thumbs_down.gif

I'm going to have to aggree with Zambo on this point, but this is true that all situations do not allow for the greatest field photos. I for one always make sure I have a roll of paper towels so I can wipe up any excess blood before taking a picture. You are bringing up a great point none the less, but remember that other people have an opinion too.

Some pictures are taken purposely as testimonials for the effectiveness of products like bullets and broadheads. It has a lot to do with the context in which a picture is taken. Judging too quickly is like assuming, and we all know that assuming makes an _ss out of you and me.

I personally believe that one should be proud of all their hunting successes and more pictures should be taken. People don't take enough pictures. I love looking at old hunting pictures of my Dad and others from the 60's and 70's. Not all are "PC" but I still enjoy them.

Just my thoughts.........:)

Well said Craig:cool:!

Most of the feild shots that are taken, there is not usually a water source around to wash up the deer. Or not usually in my case anyways. Now, I always carry water in my pack and usually on my Mule utility, but what I dont drink I save to clean my hands and self up after field dressing.

I would have to say photos of the deer with the gut pile in the photo and pools of blood isn't the prettiest photo.. When I take my photos, I try to stick the tongue in and what not. But sometimes it can't be helped. Depending on the circumstance, it mayh elp or hinder a photo, but it is not something to get a big in your rear about. I enjoy looking at the photos, regardless.

If i were worried about pleasing or offending non-hunters or anti-hunters, i wouldn't hunt at all. they are going to make up their minds on hunting whether or not it is a "pretty" picture. I'll take a nice picture sure. but i'm not going to be worried about blood in the back of the truck or cleaning anything up to please anyone, especially anti-hunters and especially because a few hunters compain about something they see everytime they kill a deer. thats not disrespecting it, disrepecting the animal, to me, is over cooking it or using ketchup instead of some A-1:D:p:D. but of course that is just your opinion and you are welcome to it....welcome to the forums

When I submit my photos to the magazine I sometimes write for....I have to make sure no blood is visible and the tongue is poked back in. That's only so the tree-hugging bunny lovers won't start bombarding the magazine with hate mail and bomb threats. Otherwise...it's not that big of a deal to me.

There is a good artical with tips for taking nice quality Magazine quality Photo's. That being said...

Sometimes you don't have a camera handy, and your pictures are taken after the deer stiffens up a little. Hard to stick a tounge back in a jaw that isn't moving. Or you get excited and field dress first, then think about photos. Or you just set up the timer, snap away and forget all about the blood. But I'm going to make a conscious effort to take better trophey photos in the future. Not to please other people, but because I like photography, its a little hobby of mine. I want to take nice pictures for myself.

What do you think the Nuge's reply would be to al' Zambo here?

Something tells me it would be pretty blunt.

There is something to be gained from this post imo. The issue of quality photos as has already been brought up is something that gets me. Everybody benefits from taking great pictures. You can never go back and take better pictures after the fact. Take the time and make sure you capture images that you would be proud to display for years to come.

Hey Zambo do you actually think for one second we care what you think about blood being in a picture. I carry a knife, grunt tube, can call, range finders, binoculars, wind checker, ect. in my back pack. I dont carry a bar of soap and a wash cloth also. I never thought I would see a post like this on the realtree website from a supposed outdoorsman. I attached a pic just for you. Its the exit wound from a doe I shot back in October. ENJOY!!!!

Ahhh blood! I don't guess you watch Ultimate fighting because its got blood covered opponents and these guys are still alive. I can understand if you don't like to look at photos with blood in them, but it is by far not showing respect for the animal in my opinion. Some of these kids on here and even adults are so excited about their harvest, who cares about about the blood. Cleaning up for a nice blood free photo is the last thing on their minds, its going to take them hours to come off the natural high they are on and even start to think if the photo has blood or to much blood in it. I didn't go to photography ethics class and the photos I take are mine. If I elect to post them and they have to much graphic material inthem, then its your choice of whether to keep looking at them or move on to another post. Don't come in here preaching down on some of these folks for the most exciting times in their hunting lives. JMO If I take a blood free photo, its for the guide lines of submitting photos to the P&Y club otherwise its for my photo album at home.
