LifeNRA
Two questions! 1. What type of chokes do you use in your gun? 2. What kind of after market re-coil pad do you have on? Thanks!
AJ
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! 1. Factory chokes for all but turkey hunting. For turkey hunting I have a Rhino choke. Its dimentions are .680", 2" extended choke. 2. N/A still using factory original. I did port my barrel to reduce the thump.
LifeNRA
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Yeah the thump is what I want to try to tone down! But I am still un-decided yet what choke I want to get! I might switch over to hevi-shot this year, not sure yet though!
AJ
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Like I have said many times before, pads like the Pachmayer Decelerator, Kick-Eez, SVL Limb-Saver, are all a step over the factory pad. Pads do not last forever. They wear out and become hard in time. Exposure to UV light, and other stuff can make them hard. Pads should be replaced every 3-5 years for best performance. carbonhunter
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I had the Decelerator on mine Life, and also use that pad on my SxS's, and citori. I like them and think they take alot of the thump out of the heavy duck loads i shoot throught the citori. I'm shure some of these newer pads will prob. take a little more of the kick out but I'll stick with what works
lil hunter
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I haven't bought any new chokes yet, other than the H.S. undertaker for turkey hunting. I wanting to buy a couple trulock chokes for it.(Improved modified, and IC) I just use it for duck, crow, and turkey. I haven't put an aftermarket pad on it yet, but I'm considering the Limbsaver. I havn't shot the little stuff with it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
Gator
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I have a TRU GLO Gobbler Stopper Extreme choke, just tried the heavy shot with it, AWESOME pattern!!! My main pattern was to the left, but it still would have been a lethal shot. I plan on geting a LimbSaver pad this week, that freakin gun gives me a headache when I shoot it!!
Gator
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I just put the LIMBSAVER pad on mine last night, can't wait to get out and shoot it!!! I will say the pad is alot "softer" than the factory pad, so it has to help!
LifeNRA
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Gator, make sure you shoot a 3.5" shell then let me know! LMBO!!!!! Mossberg does not recomend the use of Hevi-shot with their choke. This is why I was asking what other chokes were being used.

Actually I have shot the 3.5" shells thru it, didn't seem to be that bad. Sunday I fired a 3" #6 HEVISHOT thru it, then a federal #6, man, that Federal lit me up!!!! Darn near thru my gun in the pond!!! I'll let you know how that new pad does, hopefully I can test it this weekend.

Reminds me of the first time I shot a 12ga, old Browning Auto 5, thing liked to laid me out!! Think I was 10-11. I think what got me Sunday is I may not have had the gun tight to my shoulder. I did quite a bit of shooting last year, and NONE of those shots hurt nearly as bad, and I shot multiple shots on several occasions
carbonhunter
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Ya ya def. have to tuck that baby in there. My Citori will give me a good wack if i forget to get it snug before slapping the trigger.

Griz
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Well I have a 835 I use for turkey. I can't really help you out on the chokes but I can say this. I put a limbsaver pad on my 835 and that was the best money I have ever spent. It sure did ease the pain in my shoulder when I shot it. Knock that ole kicking mule right out of the baby, it did...
LifeNRA
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Diggin a little! LOL!!! Yeah I use the Sims LimbSaver pad now, and the best choke for is the Comp-N-Choke XXX Full with Winchesters Supreme HV 3.5" #6's. The pad did tone down the thump, but not as much as I was hoping! Still gives you a good punch when you pull the trigger. Hopefully next year I will get thier 935.
Chrud
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! The choke that came with it, a XX Turkey. I need a couple more, modified and improved cylinder probably. Sims Recoil Pad. It works great for 2 3/4" shells.
LifeNRA
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I bought the modified just to see how it would handle dove hunting! Worked great, matched my camo too! LOL!

10acboy
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Star Dot .676 (I think) with Winchester 3" XX #6, no recoil pad other than factory- I'm a real man!! Just joking, I have the factory pad, but think of buying an aftermarket one in the near future. silentgate
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! Hey, guys, where did you purchase your Sims Limbsaver pads? Is it just a simple 2 screws removal of the old pad and 2 screws on with the new one? Are these pre-fit to go on the 835 perfectly or do you have to make some fabrications? Thanks! spyderpancake
Re: Owners Of The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag!!! I shoot mine with the standard turkey choke, and it patterns great with Fed.flitecontrols. It is ported, but I really need to get a pad for it.
