Turkeygirl
I told mom I wouldn't mind a tripod for my Kodak Z612 camera for Christmas...especially since some settings need a tripod for the best picture. What do you recommend? Any websites? I want something tall enough to set on the ground to take pictures...say like there's turkey in the fields or maybe I'm hunting on the ground...maybe with adjustable legs? I was also thinking if I could attach it to a tree or tree branch, that'd be good to. So any recommendations would be great! I don't know if tripods fit any camera overall or certain sizes? toddyboman
I have a cheapo from wal-mart that works great. It has adjustable legs and the head swivels. You can't attach it to a tree but it fits the bill for everything else your talking about :)
wtnhunt
Do not have to have a high dollar tripod to get the results you are looking for Ruth. Have a velbon tripod here I use with both video cameras as well as my digital slr. Not an expensive tripod by any means, but it works well for my needs. Agree with the above advice and would check out what wal mart has, they have some pretty decent tripods at good prices.
Leo
This one is really decent for the money. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5656293&st=sunpak&type=product&id=1058188139756
LifeNRA
If you use a camera with long heavy lens, or even just a big camera. You don't want a cheap tripod! Now if your just using your point and shoot type camera a tripod with round legs will work just fine! Tripods that have rectangle legs will be your most sturdiest and will handle the weight associated with larger lens and such. I have two SLIK tripods and a mono-pod. Even just using the mono-pod will help your pictures to be tack sharp. Shop around, try to get the best bang for your buck! Many tripods will be able to allow your camera to be attached to the legs for macro photography. Also this will allow you to set the camera up in uneven positions. Your camera looks like its pretty light, I think a round legged tripod will work just fine. But I found one that looks like it will work. Best thing to do is go out and look at them! See what they can do for you! http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5030909
Turkeygirl
Thanks guys! that Sunpak one Leo recommended looks like a decent tripod with what I want to use it for so I may go that way
billkay
Bogen/Manfrotto are my favorite. Keep in mind that a low $$ tripod will be the only thing holding up your high $$ camera. A $500 or $5000 camera on a $35 tripod is asking for trouble in my book.
Leo
Bogen/Manfrotto are my favorite. Keep in mind that a low $$ tripod will be the only thing holding up your high $$ camera. A $500 or $5000 camera on a $35 tripod is asking for trouble in my book. You'll get no argument from me that Bill's professional photography opinion here has some validity. Bogen/Manfrotto tripods are to tripods what Zeiss is to riflescopes. In other words their stuff is considered if not the best, for sure one of the very best. The Kodak Z612 you are planning to put on the tripod weighs about 11-12oz. That's less than half of what an SLR type camera with a medium sized telephoto lense weighs. The BM stuff is made to support this substantially heavier load. A cheap tripod will indeed cost you big time if you try and use it to support that kind of setup. I've had a couple cheap tripods to support my Canon S2 and S3. Both are very similar in size and weight to the Kodak Z612. Some of the cheap tripods are really junk. The Sunpak model I suggested is what I use now. It's easily three times better than the other competitive cheap tripods out there I've used. Guest Zirkel
Turkeygirl, Check out the gorilla pod, http://www.cameralandny.com/tripods/gorillapod.pl?page=gorillapodslr I have one and for outdoors shots where lugging a real tripod around is not practical. It can hang onto just about anything. They make models both bigger and smaller camera's than this size. Zirkel
